After spending some days at Capo Testa, where we enjoyed snorkeling and discovering a reach underwater life, we decided to take a boat trip to the Maddalena National Park. We were full of expectation, thinking how wonderful it may be snorkeling there. Sailing with the wind in a small crew was a good start, but the the stop at the first cove was very disappointing: we were expected to swim between moving boats, so we risked to see nothing, life under water almost not existing. We were told that since it is September now there is less nautic trafic, but we witnessed every kind of boats coming from all directions and very close to the coves. We anchored in a more quiet and less touristic cove but again underwater life very poor. The day was at the end pleasant because of sailing and a nice skipper and the visit to the Cala Rosa, which is really protected, but we understood that the National Park is not a place to protect nature rather it is a place to make money, a LunaPark for reach tourist. I hope things will change and more ecologic tourism, which still advantage local people, will develop. Instead of taking a boat trip, please look for nice caves along the cost and you will have more fun and...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised discovered this place, is like the Caribe but in the Mediterranean. I've been one week in La Maddalena (archipelago's main island), and I had excursions to the others islands.
I highly recommed visit:
Spargi island: Cala Granara and Cala delle Meraviglie. Budelli island: Beach of the Knights. Santa Maria island: Cala Santa Maria. Caprera island: Cala Coticcio, Cala Caprese, Spiaggia del Relitto and Cala Serena. La Maddalena island: Cala Carlotto.
Except for La Maddalena and Caprera, you need a tourist trip (or rent a boat) to visit the others islands. The price is about 40€ per person (could include lunch).
Another tips: If you dont have car look accommodation close downtown in La Maddalena, because is not good comunicated. Never stay in Palau if your idea is visit the Archipielago (Ferry handicap). Look the weather before go. If is cloudly or/and windly is likely there is not...
