The first time I came here was around 1992 when I was still yet to be conceived/birthed but I knew it was a special place. I got those Christmas tingles right where the MONEY spot is. I personally consider myself to have a flatly neutral response to art but I am always uplifted and inspired after visiting such galleries - perhaps suggesting I should take up my previous hobby of duck hunting through west-east Tibet. This hangar is now my favourite hanger and I implore you all to visit it over the course of a few hours with a pizza and a few virgin espresso martinis in you. My favourite piece of art here was one by Mirosław Bałka in which he entices the pedestrian to walk towards a shipping container by illuminating the tip of it (not unlike a moth to outdoor floodlight) and then once you start walking you realise there's a tunnel - so you start walking down through the depths exploring the relationship between the personal and impersonal before understanding that a right turn needs to be taken. Take that right turn. What do you find? Nothing. Everything is pointless stay in bed tomorrow and don't you dare buy that $2000 drone you've been eyeing off for the past 2 weeks. They'll release a new model soon with minor improvements.

Personally, I do not like modern art. Although I can stand most of the modern art museums, this one is for real connoisseurs. Huge area with several exhibitions, not a single one of which I understood. One of them was a particular nightmare for me – schizophrenic sounds and almost total darkness. I followed the direction signs and I spent 10 seconds staring at a black wall looking for another room that turned out to be on the other side of a – what a surprise - black courtain next to the wall. I would say the most user-friendly thing for me was the bathroom there. Moreover, in order to enter you need to fill out an online form with your name, surname and email address which results immediately in spam.

A must visit. Though on the map it looks miles away from the centre - it is just one metro line all the way to the end (last station but one). I would recommend renting one of the many electric bikes outside the station and cycle to the venue. It will cut a 15min walk to 3mins. Renting the electric bikes can be done on the app (Lime I think). There is a bike path for the vast majority of the trip. The venue is free and even if you don’t like the art the venue is Huge! And quite impressive. The installations are all very interactive. You can complete the experience in about 45 mins. And electric bike have be taken from the station to the venue and back - it is about a 3 min bike rental.

The Bicocca Hangar, a former Pirelli industrial site in Milan, has become a disconcerting hub for contemporary art. Its exhibitions often lean heavily on conceptual pieces that require extensive explanation, leaving many visitors, both general audiences and art insiders, perplexed. This trend toward conceptualism has seen a growing emphasis on non-existent artifacts, often manifested as objects salvaged from trash and reassembled into arrangements that seem to embody death and insecurity. Such a waste of space 🤔

This is an absolute must visit if you like contemporary art. The place is very big. The exhibition of Anselm Kiefer is impressive. Huge scale artworks. Pieces that are equivalent of 6 stories high. That immensely big the place is. The other exhibition halls are also huge. Displaying monumental works. The exhibitions are properly curated. And to think the entrance is completely free. Thank to whoever funds projects like this. Art should be accessible for everyone.
