Castello Carlo V

We visited Castello Carlo V expecting a rich historical experience - a fortress by the sea with towers, dungeons, and immersive architecture. Instead, we were allowed to see only four rooms. FOUR. The rest of the castle was either closed off, used as offices, or simply inaccessible, with no explanation provided. There was no guided tour, no audio support, no proper signage - just a few exhibition spaces, however nice they were. This is not a museum - it's a missed opportunity. If you advertise the castle as a cultural attraction, please open more of it to the public. What we got felt more like a teaser than a visit. For the entrance fee and the reputation, this was honestly disappointing...

Visiting Castello Carlo V in Monopoli was a highlight of our trip. This impressive castle, with its sturdy walls and striking architecture, offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s history. Although we didn’t go inside, the exterior views and the surrounding area were captivating. We enjoyed strolling around the castle grounds, taking in the beautiful architecture and the scenic views of the sea. The castle’s location adds to its charm, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Monopoli. Highly...

The castle of Charles V is a fort built on the seashore during the Spanish domination protection of the entrance of the ancient port, on the north-east corner of the city walls of Monopoli. It constitutes the key element of the system of urban fortifications. Currently, the sections of the city walls south of the castle are visible and largely restored to the Cathedral, including the bastions of Santa Maria, Pappacenere and the Cathedral.

Going inside the castle does not wort it. It is a bit expensive and you do not get much for that prize. On the other side, a walk around it and alongside the sea is a much more worthy experience for everyone. Amazing view the the water, with not that many people alongside the path. The old town is mesmerising. I spent a few days in Monopoli, and it was the best places overall (the surrounding).
