Slechte ervaring. Gisteren de acropolis bezocht en gelijk tickets voor de necropolis de volgende dag gekocht. Deze zo uitgekiend dat er op dat tijdstip een Engelstalige Guide zou zijn. Uiteindelijk met z'n tweeën 50 euro gedokt hiervoor. Blijkt de volgende dag dat er wel een guiide is maar dat de tour in het Italiaans gehouden word. Foutje bedankt. However, the site is overpriced, 20 Euros for so small archaeological parks; Villa Adriana is only 10 Euros but it is a huge site. Roselle is an amazing roman city is only 4 euros. Compared with some other archaeological sites I visited this place is overrated and...

L'acropoli di Populonia fa parte di un circuito che comprende anche la Necropoli di San Cerbone, posta qualche chilometro più in basso, di fronte alla spiaggia di Baratti. È possibile fare un biglietto singolo oppure in cumulativo. Noi abbiamo scelto la prima opzione e abbiamo pagato 12 euro a testa. È possibile fare una visita guidata gratuita (a noi è toccata una ragazza preparata e molto simpatica), oppure girovagare da soli, muniti della mappa fornita insieme al biglietto. Contrariamente alla necropoli sottostante, di etrusco, qui, non resta più nulla: le costruzioni visibili sono tutte di età romana, per lo più del II secolo a.C. Dei tre templi ad inizio percorso non restano che le rovine, perché i grandi massi di cui si componevano sono stati utilizzati, nel tardo medioevo, per costruire la Rocca di Populonia. Molto bella la strada romana e la sommità, con i resti delle terme. Da quassù si gode di una visita impagabile su ambo i lati del promontorio, che da sola vale il biglietto: da un lato il golfo di Baratti, dall'altro l'Isola d'Elba!...
