Il Colore del Grano — Restaurant in Piombino

Pre-Covid this was our favourite place for pizza. My husband (who is from Piombino) and I went in July and, while the new atmosphere that's been created is quite nice - we were pretty disappointed -- mainly for the pretentious attitude that was served when we sat down. The person (I'm assuming he's the head waiter, or owner, or both) outright said "we are a little difficult here" and he wasn't joking. He looked at me like I was from another planet -- first, when I did not want the suggested 10e cocktail, and instead asked for a glass of white wine with my pizza. And then when I requested no sausage on my pizza (because I don't eat pork products due to animal welfare and health concerns), he gave some sort of lecture on sophistication and pointed to the small type at the bottom of the menu, which stated that "no changes or alterations were possible". I mean, it's PIZZA... not a Michelin Star menu item we're talking about! What's more, it's 2022 and people are (or at least should be) eating less meat. There are more vegetarians and vegans ... and we still want, and deserve, a great pizza! Local friends of ours have expressed the same issue at with trying to make minor changes to their pizza order at Dispensa Desideri. And because I was slightly intimidated by this person, who was supposed to be serving the food I was paying for, I did not ask (as I always do at every restaurant) that the pizza have half the usual amount of cheese. So the pizza arrived with, I'm sorry to say, a very unsophisticated amount of cheese (more American style than Italian) and I left with a major stomach ache. My husband had the raw seafood plate and can safely say it was not worth the money -- absolutely tasteless. And did this waiter/owner person check in to ask how our meal was going? Not once. We did not interact with him again after he, obviously frustrated, took our order. So my suggestion is to drop the pretentiousness as it will only cost you customers, who would otherwise be...

Abbiamo deciso di recarci a Populonia per una cena estiva. Dopo aver contattato telefonicamente il locale per prenotare un tavolo, al telefono ha risposto un ragazzo al quale abbiamo chiesto specificatamente quale fossero le pietanze che realizzavano confermandoci così la possibilità di poter mangiare una buona pizza. Ci siamo recati al ristorante verso le 20:45, una volta seduti dopo un buon quarto d’ora sono venuti a portarci il menù, quà è arrivata la sorpresa, ci hanno comunicato che non era possibile ordinare due pizze in quanto avevano l’impasto contato e che andava fatta specifica richiesta al momento della prenotazione. Devo essere sincero, ci siamo rimasti molto male soprattuto perché telefonicamente nessuno ci ha specificato la necessità di dover prenotare l’impasto… cosa che non ci era mai capitata prima !!

A questo punto ordiniamo dall’ordinario menù comprendete piatti di pesce e di terra. La nostra scelta ricade su un piatto di linguine e su di un tagliere di mare, oltre a ciò abbiamo ordinato due cocktails. Al momento dell’ordine il cameriere ci ha chiesto cosa desideravamo da mangiare dopo di che ci ha chiesto i cocktails, a questo punto ci ha chiesto nuovamente se volevamo mangiare qualcosa, chiaro segno che al momento dell’ordine non ci stava minimante ascoltando.

Come prima cosa ci vengono serviti i cocktails, su di essi assolutamente niente da dire, davvero buoni, e si percepisce la ricerca e la passione impiegata.

Successivamente ci arrivano le portate, la linguina da noi ordinata e un tataki di tonno che non noi avevamo assolutamente chiesto. Lasciamo in tavola il primo piatto costringendo la mia ragazza a mangiare ed io resto in attesa dell’altro piatto. Trascorrono così circa 25 minuti, duranti i quali escono ben due camerieri a chiedere se noi ci eravamo sbagliati, ma non era così.

Adesso un commento sulle portate viste le cifre piuttosto onerose alle quali sono vendute. Il primo piatto, linguine al tonno rosso al nostro parere non valeva la cifra richiesta, il tonno risultava molto scotto e nel piatto c’era abbondante acqua di cottura. Per quanto riguarda il tagliere invece nonostante fosse di mare dobbiamo dire che non siamo rimasti molto soddisfatti, avremmo preferito ricevere pietanze più “semplici” ma meglio composto e di maggiore qualità.

This place is a real little gem, we arrived too late for lunch but were offered a lovely charcuterie board which we thoroughly enjoyed. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and speak great English. The decor inside and outside is just so cool, such an amazing vibe throughout. A real Italian family run restaurant - Nonna was playing with the grandchildren outside and it was so beautiful to see. There is something interesting to see in every corner, the furniture and art are very quirky and create a real authentic and individual ambience. We will definitely return for lunch or dinner when time allows. We’ve visited many places in Italy and this beautiful place is now one of our favourites, everything...
