Sentiero degli Dei

The Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods) is a hiking trail along the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy. It is one of the most popular hiking trails in Italy, and for good reason. The trail offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, the coastline, and the surrounding mountains.

The Sentiero degli Dei is about 9 kilometers long and takes about 4-5 hours to complete. The trail is well-marked and relatively easy to follow, but there are some steep sections. It is important to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water, especially if hiking in the summer.

The Sentiero degli Dei starts in the town of Agerola and ends in the town of Positano. However, you can hike the trail in either direction. Most people start in Agerola because it is a bit easier to go downhill than uphill.

Along the way, you will pass through picturesque villages, olive groves, and vineyards. You will also see ruins of ancient Roman temples and fortifications.

One of the most popular viewpoints on the Sentiero degli Dei is the Belvedere di Punta Campanella. From here, you have stunning views of the Gulf of Salerno, the Amalfi Coast, and the islands of Capri and Ischia.

Another popular viewpoint is the Grotta di Santa Maria a Mare. This is a cave church that is perched on the cliffside overlooking the sea.

The Sentiero degli Dei is a beautiful and challenging hike that is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories. Here are a few interesting facts about the trail:

The Sentiero degli Dei is also known as the "Path of the Heroes" because it was once used by Greek and Roman heroes to travel between the different towns and villages along the Amalfi Coast. The trail is said to have been inspired by the Greek gods Zeus and Athena, who are said to have walked along the path to watch Ulysses sail past. The Sentiero degli Dei was featured in the James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only." The trail is also popular with celebrities, including George Clooney, Angelina Jolie,...

Out of all the amazing things we did in Italy., This was one of the top all-time experiences. Fulvio, our guide was amazing. I appreciate it all the little things he pointed out to us, including the herbs and all the plants and trees that were growing, to the rocks in the clouds and the towns below. It is not easy and definitely one of the hardest, most enjoyable workouts Iโ€™ve done. It involved up and down Rocky steps. But the journey was worth it. At the top was a nice surprise, seeing a little vintage Italian house of rocks, where they served us fresh zucchini, goat cheese, and tomatoes and local wine. Revisited the small little goat farm up there as well. From on top of the mountains, you could see everything below once the clouds in the fog cleared up. Definitely bring water and your sneakers or hiking boots will get torn up as well. this is well worth the trip, though, experiencing...

Incredible experience, but bring comfortable shoes and be prepared for some slippery stones and climb up and down parts of this trail. Most parts don't have safety rails so not suitable for dogs or children, but it is a great view and great time. We got a little lost at the end as lost the sign posts for Nocelle to get the bus, but there is a bus stop round the corner on the road to take you to Positano - the time table was not useful though so it's a wait and see. Bus was about 1.60EUR per...

Easy and beautiful walk in the hills of Amalfi Coast Takes about 2h if you go on a average speed, take good shoes and some water. Some parts were abandoned and others were quite busy, probably because of some holdups by slower people. You don't need sticks or anything fancy, just some shoes with decent grip and a bottle of water will do. Enjoy the flora in the hills and the views on the coastline.
