The work was inaugurated in 1932 and initially called "Foro Mussolini". The monumental entrance is located in Piazza Lauro De Bosis, where the imposing marble Obelisk designed by Costantino Costantini and dedicated to Mussolini stands. The monolith is the largest block of marble ever extracted from the Apuan Alps. On the right is the former Academy of Physical Education, now the headquarters of CONI, built between 1928 and 1932 by Enrico Del Debbio. On the left of the obelisk is the Palazzo delle Terme, a 1937 project by Costantino Costantini. It houses the former Academy of Music, now home to the ISEF and the RAI auditorium, the amazing indoor swimming pool with floor mosaics by Giulio Rosso and the parietal ones by Angelo Canevari, and the former gymnasium of the Duce.

The Foro Italico is a large sports complex built north of the center of Rome and is a perfect example of Italian fascist architecture. The complex is a collection of stadiums that could be used as a propaganda tool by the Fascist regime in Italy. The purpose of building these stadiums was to host the 1940 Olympic Games, but the games were awarded to Tokyo, Japan, and were later canceled due to the outbreak of World War II. Today, the Foro Italico is a popular tourist destination, especially for sports fans. The main draws for visitors are Lazio and Roma soccer games, the Italian Open tennis tournament which I just attended, rugby matches, swimming competitions, music events and architecture tours.

A great experience indeed in the Eternal City... I ran to the stadium 🏟️...very early in the morning all the way from Il Colosseo. It's Coming to Rome 😊 It's Running in Rome. When you're done seeing the stadium, just close by, make sure your run in the track totally surrounded by Great gigantic Olympic themed statues, Stadio Dei Marmi. It's just so so beautiful. By the way... If anyone sees this photo and is in Rome or planning to go to Rome. Send me a message on Twitter or Instagram (@legendsofmyself) and I'll happily, freely give you the best of the best recommendations of places and stuff to do in the Eternal city. ♥️🧡

The tennis court was pretty nice, but the upper levels are neglected, dirty and poorly maintained. In most of the place under the seats, there was a puddle of water that wet your feet. The second day I had to buy some water resistant shoes. In addition to the lack of maintenance, the floor in many places was very slippery, which affects the safety of the public greatly. The bathrooms are very small for the size of the building. Long lines are made at peak times and it becomes very dirty. The outside areas are nice and quite acceptable.

Foro Italico is a sports complex built in 1938 as the Foro Mussolini, and is a preeminent example of Italian fascist architecture. The Mussolini Obelisk still stands with the inscription "Mussolini Dux" (duke or leader). The obelisk was intended to draw a parallel between the obelisks of ancient Rome and the fascist regime. The sports complex was intended for the 1940 Olympics, which were cancelled because of World War II. Rome eventually hosted the Olympics in 1960.
