We visited last Saturday the museum. I booked our 2 tickets on Thursday night and the slot that was available for the exhibition "Environments by female artists" was only for 5pm. The museum was closing at 7pm. Once booked the tickets I received them fast with a note that I will be asked to leave my belongings and my shoes outside in a designated locker, which was fine. we arrived on time. we went to the queue where a guy who was not speaking English tried to explain that we need to go all the way at the end of the looooong queue to enter the exhibition. I explained we had a ticket booked for 5pm and there were only 2 hours left. the lady at the information desk told us that we don't need to wait and we went AGAIN back to the guy to explain, but after all we had to wait at the queue to leave our belongings and then wait to another queue to enter. funny thing, you could enter with your belongings but you were not able to see all the exhibits wearing your coat and bag. we were asked to leave our shoes to a chaotic area with no safety for our pair of shoes where it was totally dirty as you can see at the photo. after less than 1,5 hours in the exhibition the museum was closing so we had to leave. because of the looooong queues in the exhibition you were not able to view all of the environments. SUMMARY: paid 18€ per person, to enter while waiting a long time, with no safety for my personal items provided, total chaos in the exhibition and not enough time to see it all through....

Read moreUnfortunately very, very disappointing and a far cry from the art institution it used to be.
We visited the MAXXI on 8 Dec 2024, having been there a couple of times before over the years. As usual, we came to see contemporary art and in this expectation (and trust in the institution) we paid 30 Euro for the tickets (2 pers). Once inside, we were shocked not to see a single work of contemporary art on display.
Instead, there was a big show about highways which seemed to be sponsored by autostrade per'l Italia. This is not art. Furthermore, there was an architecture exhibition and a show of fashion. The ground floor and the fourth floor were not accessible at all. With half the museum closed and the rest not showing contemporary art as to be expected at MAXXI, we were strongly disappointed, not to say angry.
The ticket desk did not tell us that there was no art on display at the time. When we afterwards complained with the information desk, we were promised a refund of the entrance fee once we sent them an email. So we did 9 Dec.
Until today, 27 Dec we have neither got any reply nor a refund. Looks like they just want to sit it out, regardless of further damaging their already tanking reputation.
