Tuesday 9 May 2023 to Tuesday 16 May 2023 Once again, we attended the main mass at 10.0 AM on Sunday 14 May 2023. Not much point in photographs today as the entire sky was covered with featureless light grey clouds that were so bright that I had to wear sunglasses all day long. No order of service sheets, really long sermon, lots of mobiles going off during the service, loud audio from a room at the back of the auditorium that had nothing to do with the service and idiot tourists wandering in during communion and working their way to the front in order to take photographs before turning around and immediately leaving. Apart from these minor quibbles, an excellent experience.

Friday 25 September 2020 to Friday 2 October 2020 We attended the main mass at 10.00 AM on Sunday 27 September 2020. Once again, the day was a bit overcast but cleared up wonderfully by the afternoon. The service was well attended with very few idiot tourists wandering in to take photographs during the service thanks to the presence of the carabinieri.

Sunday 8 April 2018 to Sunday April 2018 Today (Wednesday 11 April 2018) was a bit of an overcast day so this did not show the cathedral in the best light. No pun intended. But the mass at 8.30 was well attended and very moving.

Sunday 7 May 2017 to Sunday 14 May 2917 I have seen the light! Now that the outside had been cleaned, this cathedral is quite beautiful. However, go inside on a sunny day and you will see that this is THE most amazing interior of any building you will EVER experience. Light and space and sanctity. You can feel God's presence and the love he/she feels for all...

Full of reverance and religious culture. The architecture, although modern in terms of Italian history, is nonetheless inspiring and awesome. The precision and geometric proportions are an engineering feat, in line with more historical monuments in the Sicilian landscape. While not as familiar as the basilicas throughout the country, the background of the church and it's local significance is worth noting. Open to the public. The Crypt had a minor €1 cost to see the donations of silver and gold from worshippers, as well as the garments and pictures of Pope's opening visit in 2001, and Archbishops participating at the time. It doesn't have the weight of history behind it but still revered by pilgrims...

Basilica Santuario Madonna delle Lacrime in Siracusa is a marvel that seamlessly combines modern architecture with spiritual significance. Completed in 1994, it stands as a testament to devotion and faith. The basilica houses a revered weeping Madonna statue, commemorating a miraculous event in 1953. Its design, reminiscent of a teardrop, symbolizes the tears shed by the Madonna. The basilica's stunning interior, adorned with intricate mosaics, captivates visitors, creating a serene atmosphere for reflection. This contemporary sanctuary not only holds religious importance but also serves as a architectural and cultural landmark in the heart of Siracusa.

Architecturally stunning church. It wasn’t recommend in the guide book (LP) but would put this as one of the top ten attractions in the city, whether you’re religious or not. The cavernous use of space is just mind blowing, and how it uses light gives it an ethereal feel. Such an interesting space and beautiful for reflection and quiet time. While a stunning building, it has the air of a James Bond villain’s pair, especially in the crypt. Wheelchair accessible and has toilets in the grounds.

The inside of the basilica is peaceful and spiritual. Management should keep the beggars outside though. The tranquility is disturbed by a beggar in a cap who walks along the benches and stops by every single person to ask for money. Unfortunately quite a few people donate, reinforcing his behavior. After receiving money from one person in a family, he still begs every other member of the family. Afterwards, the beggar counts his coins, clinking echoes throughout the church.
