Agorà La Cantina — Restaurant in Syracuse

A fantastic, authentic and unpretentious no-menu / „what you see is what you get” place, serving the daily-prepared „main course” (meat or fish / seafood) with some optional add-ons, and a daily wide selection of greens (grilled, stewed, etc.). And wine, naturally - as „a meal without wine is breakfast”, as one of the quotes presented inside stated 😉 You go to the counter, select from what is on display, et voila, get ready to eat! We both had the „large” (5 kinds) plate of greens - and wine. Bread / crustini was also served to accompany it. Everything tasted great, honest nonna-style Sicilian homecooking at its best - with good fresh produce and great use of spices. Wine was at an adequate level as well (we had the white) - and the service was flawless. The bill was 32€ - and the food & drink served was worth every penny. I recently visited Agora in Siracusa, and while my experience was mixed, there were definitely some positive aspects worth noting. On the one hand, the staff at Agora were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

However, when it came to the food, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I ordered a pasta dish with zucchini and sausage that arrived cold and didn't have the robust flavor I was hoping for. While it wasn't terrible, it definitely didn't live up to my expectations.

That being said, I still appreciated the effort that went into the dish, and I could tell that the ingredients were fresh and of high quality.

Very good quality, hot table style, choose you dish and they bring it to your table. The food was great and it was nicely seasoned . Far better than most restaurants I have visited in the area. Far more than just seafood and pasta thank goodness. ,The food had nice seasonings .
