🌸 Hotel Mifujien – A Front Row Seat to Mt. Fuji’s MajestyIf you’re looking for unparalleled views of Mt. Fuji, look no further than Hotel Mifujien. Nestled right beside Lake Kawaguchiko, this hotel offers one of the most photogenic and soul-soothing panoramas of Japan’s most iconic peak.🗻 The View: Absolutely BreathtakingThe highlight of our stay was the view — and it’s no exaggeration. Whether it’s early morning when the summit catches the first rays of sunlight, or during a serene sunset, the unobstructed view of Mount Fuji reflected in Lake Kawaguchiko is simply unforgettable. I woke up early just to capture a time-lapse of the sunrise, and it was worth every second of lost sleep. We also filmed a sunset time-lapse, and again, Fuji didn’t disappoint.⸻🚶♂️ Getting There: Worth the Scenic WalkAlthough the hotel offers a shuttle bus pickup service, we chose to walk from Kawaguchiko Station — and it was a delightful decision. The 20–30 minute stroll is scenic and peaceful. We even stopped by a local supermarket for some ice cream while enjoying views of Mt. Fuji in the background. It was an experience that made us feel like locals soaking in a perfect day.⸻🛏 Tatami Rooms: Authentic and ComfortableThe tatami-style room was clean, spacious, and gave us a deeply authentic Japanese lodging experience. Sliding doors, futon beds, and traditional touches made our stay both relaxing and culturally immersive.⸻♨️ Hot Springs: Cozy, Not CrowdedThe hotel features both indoor and outdoor onsen (hot springs). While not particularly large, they are a nice bonus to unwind after a day of exploring. Since they only accommodate a few people at a time, it’s best to avoid peak hours.⸻🍱 Meals: Included and DeliciousOur stay included both breakfast and dinner, and the food was outstanding. A beautifully arranged kaiseki-style dinner showcased seasonal ingredients, fresh sashimi, grilled seafood, and hot pots. Breakfast was equally satisfying with a variety of small dishes and a perfectly cooked grilled fish. Everything was crafted with care and served with hospitality.⸻📝 Suggestions: • Bring a tripod if you’re planning to do photography or time-lapses — the view is too good not to capture properly. • Try both the indoor and outdoor onsen during quiet hours to fully enjoy the experience. • Use the shuttle service if you’re carrying large luggage, as the walk (while scenic) do take around 30 minutes.⸻⭐ Final Verdict: 9/10Hotel Mifujien is all about the view — and it delivers. Combine that with great meals, clean traditional rooms, and hot springs, and you have the perfect base to enjoy Mt. Fuji in...

Read moreDuring our recent trip to Japan one of our aims was to see Mt Fuji. We took the advice of a local travel agent specialising in Japan, who advised us not to settle for a day trip from Tokyo, as we were unlikely to see the mountain on a day trip due to the ever-present cloud around the summit.||This proved to be an accurate assessment, and because of it we decided to stay for a few days, which proved to be one of the highlights of our holiday.||The Hotel Mifujien, on the banks of Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the 5 lakes in the area, in the town of Yamanashi, advertises itself as being a traditional Japanese hotel offering a view of the mountain from every room, which was handy as that was the only vantage point from which we actually saw the mountain without cloud cover. I took more than 40 photos in case the view never got better, but we saw the mountain clearly early at 5:30 AM and later at sundown.||Because our room featured a floor of tatami mats, we were asked to remove our shoes on entering. A large, very low table occupied the centre of the room, and a small table with 2 European height chairs was a concession to those unused to sitting on the floor. During the afternoon the table was moved to make room for the 2 very comfortable futons on which we slept. I have a problem with getting up off the floor, related to my age, but a low chair was quickly provided to enable me to remove my shoes with ease.||The provided breakfast was nothing short of amazing. When we reached our table, we had arrayed before us 7 bowls…each. The lovely ladies with their limited English but helpful pantomime showed us what everything was for.||At the second of our 3 breakfasts at this hotel we were escorted to a specially marked table and to a specially prepared breakfast which was designed by the ladies to be a western breakfast. We had not asked for this. It was indicative of the friendly reception we encountered everywhere in Japan.||There is more to do in Yamanashi than sit in a hotel room waiting for the clouds to clear. Yamanashi has a public transport system focussed around 3 colour coded routes, and a very reasonably priced 2- day pass allowed tourists to use it as a hop on hop off system. The landscape and features around the lakes occupied us for the time we were there.||This short stay near Mt Fuji provided a joyful memory as well as an unhindered view of the mountain. The Hotel Mifujien is an important element of...
