山彦 — Restaurant in Fujikawaguchiko

Food : 4 star. Ordered the sets of tempura with rice, udon and soba. Tempura pieces were fresh and crispy, and the noodles were quite sumptuous.

Portion : 5 star. Quite generous portion commensurate with the price.

Ambience : 5 star. It was very neat and clean, with aesthetic view overseeing Lake Kawaguchi. The whole place was spacious and comfortable.

Service : 4 star. The restaurant seemed short-handed with only 1 middle-aged waitress. However, food serving was swift and the waitress was quite attentive. The only thing is she was not conversant in English at all, and body language had to be applied.

Price : 2 star. The prices of the items on the menu were considered quite exorbitant and comparatively higher than many other nearby restaurants offering the same type of food. Perhaps because it was the restaurant closest to the lake or the ropeway.

Great little local restaurant that we found perchance walking around the shores of Lake Kawaguchi. We were hungry and we came across this restaurant at just the right time and we saw a lot of people inside! Normally, that is a really good sign but little did we know, they were all tourists! So... we did not know what we were in for. However, their food looked and smelled great!

We ordered soba, tanuki udon, tempura udon and a crab hot iron bowl udon, their signature dish. All the dishes were cooked absolute perfection! We even ordered a plate of deep fried wakasaki from Lake Kawaguchi. These are basically just deep fried breaded smelts. They were served with a little side of grainy mustard and mayonnaise. This lunch really hit the spot. The old lady serving was very sweet and the service was very friendly and food came out within 10 minutes! We are leaving...

Absolutely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had—山彦 serves food that perfectly suits my palate! Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. The quality exceeded expectations, and I would highly recommend this place to any tourist looking for authentic and satisfying cuisine.
