Having read a few histories of Japan, and having taught world history for close to a decade, I had a bit of context. So it was really fascinating to do a deep dive into Fukuyoka's specific place in world history. The museum is laid out chronologically, with dioramas beginning with the earliest agricultural settlements and continuing through the historical eras. Most of the signs with detailed explanations are in Japanese, so it really helps to have a smartphone with something like Google translate or DeepL. With the translation, the various objects are that much more interesting. Especially the rusty knives and cracked pottery shards. Read moreCity museum that hosts lots of artifacts from past times. the permanent exhibition has a lot to see, the gold seal/stamp that leads to the dicovery of the region is at the the entrance. much smaller than i expected.
expect to see lots of school kids there, can be crowded at times. onky 200 yen for the main exhibit. i paid extra to see the new 武士 collection, cash only tho. worth the price if you are super into 武士家族.
also a small shop for fukuoka 织物 with its own gift shop. every interesting to learn about it. overall, worth your time...
