Gotemba Premium Outlets — Attraction in Gotenba

I visited Gotemba Premium Outlets on January 17, 2025, during winter, and the experience was both enjoyable and eventful.

I took a direct bus from Tokyo bus station and the bus ride was about 1 hour ++. The ride itself was comfortable and it was a double decker bus. A brochure will be given to you when you board the bus so be lookout for this brochure on your seat as it has information of all the premium outlet and directory in that place.

Nestled near the base of Mount Fuji, this shopping haven is one of Japan’s largest premium outlet malls, boasting over 290 stores featuring a mix of luxury brands, sportswear, fashion, and accessories.

The outlet is huge, divided into two main sections connected by a bridge, which offers a stunning view of Mount Fuji—if you're lucky and the weather is clear. Unfortunately, clouds can obscure the mountain, so catching a good view requires good timing.

Most of the common international brands can be found here, making it a must-visit for brand-conscious shoppers and bargain hunters.

The discounts at these stores are decent but not always massive, so you’ll have to hunt for the best deals.

I found Coach and Michael Kors offering some attractive deals, making them worthwhile stops for bag lovers.

For sportswear enthusiasts, Nike and Adidas have a strong presence here with a wide range of shoes, apparel, and accessories at competitive prices. If you're looking for good bargains on quality sports gear, these stores are definitely worth visiting.

The outlet has two food courts, but in my opinion, the food was quite disappointing. I tried the Singapore Chicken Rice at one of the stalls, hoping for a taste of home, but it was so terrible that I almost fainted—and I’m not even exaggerating! Maybe I’m biased because I’m from Singapore, but trust me, it was nowhere near authentic.

If you're planning to eat at Gotemba Premium Outlets, I’d recommend dining somewhere else outside the mall. The options here are mediocre at best, and you’re better off saving your appetite for better food elsewhere.

Mount Fuji View from the Bridge – If you're lucky with the weather, the bridge connecting the two sections of the outlet offers an amazing view of Mount Fuji. However, during my visit, clouds were hovering around the mountain, making it difficult to see clearly.

Good Deals on Bags & Sportswear – If you’re in the market for a Coach or Michael Kors bag, this outlet is worth visiting. The Nike and Adidas stores also offer good value.

Convenient Layout – The huge space is well-organized, making it easy to shop without feeling too overwhelmed.

Absolutely! If you love shopping for branded goods, sportswear, and luxury items at discounted prices, this is a great place to visit. The scenic Mount Fuji backdrop adds a unique touch to the shopping experience.

However, I strongly recommend avoiding the food courts—they are not worth it. Instead, plan to eat outside the mall for a more satisfying meal.

Overall, Gotemba Premium Outlets is a must-visit for shoppers, offering a wide variety of stores and a chance to see Mount Fuji—just don’t count on the food...

A friend told us this is a “must do” if we’re anywhere near Tokyo so we went to the Shinjuku Bus Station on Oct. 9 and purchased tickets for the 10th (3,300 yen pp). We left Shinjuku at 8:30am and arrived at Gotemba at 10:15am. Our return was scheduled for 4:30pm so we had six hours to shop.

Whoa, this place is huge! There are three sections of shops: West Zone, East Zone, and Hillside, terraced along a hillside with 200+ stores. We saw people rolling suitcases; they were serious shoppers!

This is not your typical outlet mall … We found Brunello Cucinelli, Isaia Napoli, Celine, Loro Piana, Breitling, Prada, Kenzo, Bally ... All the high-end stores I would want (and more). I was looking for a Mexico 66 shoe at Onitsuka Tiger for a friend; I found one in a different coloration for a very good price.

I purchased ties at Isaia and Ted Baker, shirts at a couple of other stores and some stuffed animals and ended up spending $285. I would have purchased clothing at Brunello Cucinelli or Loro Piana, but they were featuring winter wear, something we don’t need in Hawaii.

We had lunch in the West Zone food court then found better places to eat in the Hillside complex. Oh well, next time. Haha, I found two places with Hawaiian names: Sam Choy’s and Manoa Pancake House in the West Zone. Interestingly, the latter was serving poke bowls; pancakes were limited to desserts. I had a beef bowl with a raw egg and a glass of beer from The Beer Bar for 1,300 yen.

Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the bus pickup point. Traffic going back to Shinjuku was bad, so it took 2+ hours to get back.

I’ve been told there are a couple of other outlet malls near Tokyo; the largest being Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu in Chiba, with 250+ stores. Can I handle two outlet malls the next time...

This is the best factory outlet in whole of Japan! It takes a long time to get there by bus or by train from Tokyo - about 2.5hrs - but for those who shop a lot, it is well worth it. I have taken both the bus and train to get there and felt the train ( if navigated well enough as the train from Kozu station to Gotemba station arrives right after you reach there on the train from Tokyo station ; if you miss this Kozu station train to Gotemba, it's a 1hr wait for the next one) is the better way to go. The train arrives at Gotemba station and a shuttle right outside the train station takes you to the outlet. The bus from Tokyo station says it takes 1.5hours but no, it will take 2.5hours - my recent trip on this bus took 3.5hr one way due to a road accident. For heading back to Tokyo, the bus from the outlet may be better as there are many options but you need to get the tickets from the bus drivers there early or they would be full. The outlet has 3 sections - each joined by a bridge and at each bridge, you can see Mt Fuji - a beautiful sight. Lots and lots of shops with high end brands like Bottega, Prada, Gucci, Valentino, etc which are not all in 1 place in other Japanese factory outlets, plus wide range of mid-level to mass brands. And the prices - super! Very cheap by Asian standards in my opinion for the high end brands and they sometimes have more discounts which make buying difficult to resist. If there was one negative thing I wanna say about this place, it would be the limited choice of food - but you can def find something decent to eat and spend more time browsing the shops. I recommend it to all my friends who go to Japan and whenever I make the trip there, I won't give Gotemba outlet a...
