This shrine requires more donation to maintain the architecture and do some refurbishment. Overall, I really do enjoy looking at different shrine architecture and landscape, so can’t complain. I honestly like hand written goshuin and they did for 2 shrines at the price of 500yen. Plus, they offer you some sweet treats too.

A picturesque Shinto shrine nestled in the forest on the foothills of Mt. Hakodate. The grounds are full of magnificent old trees and the entrance way is lined by beautiful cherry blossoms. It's a bit of a hike to get to, but definitely worth it for the peaceful atmosphere and the gorgeous old buildings.

Came here on a late afternoon and it was raining on the way down. A serene place with a shop at the top that sells trinkets and 'talisman'. I bought some as souvenirs and hope for blessings as well.

２０６. 2017.09.24 2018.08.24 函館山の麓の谷地頭地区に鎮座です 。 近くには 御珍宝神社さん もあります 。 博物館や谷地頭温泉もありました 。 初詣には 北海道神宮さん に次いで １０万人もの人が訪れるそうです 。 とうとう 札幌白石神社さん を抜きました。 小樽八幡神社さん や 石狩八幡神社さん 更には 室蘭八幡宮さん などは こちらの神社さんから御分霊を されているのだそうです 。 北海道では 他の神社さんに御分霊できる 神社さんはそうそうありませんから それだけ格式のある神社さんと いうことになります 。 1445年 (文安2)に亀田郡の領主が 元町に館を築城した時に 八幡社 を館の隅に祀ったのが 始まりなのだそうです 。 八幡神社の御祭神である 応神天皇 住吉神社の御祭神である 住吉大神 金刀比羅宮の御祭神の 金刀比羅大神 が 祀られております 。 函館八幡宮さん は 金刀比羅神社 や八幡神社 や 住吉神社 の いいとこ取りなのです 。 境内には 鶴若稲荷神社さん も 祀られておりまして ２つの御朱印を頂くことができます 。 木製カバーのオリジナル御朱印帳も 販売されておりました 。

函館八幡宮（はこだてはちまんぐう）は、北海道函館市谷地頭町2番5号にある神社で旧社格は国幣中社、現在は別表神社。御祭神は品陀和気命（ほんだわけのみこと)、住吉大神(すみよしのおおかみ)、金刀比羅大神(ことひらのおおかみ)で例祭日は8月15日。 函館市史 通説編1では函館八幡宮の創建年について述べた箇所があり以下のとおりです。 箱館八幡宮 文安2(1445)年、河野政通が宇須岸館の東南隅に鎮護の神としてまつり、アイヌ騒乱で一時赤川に移ったといわれているが、河野政通の渡来年代とは相違している。『蝦夷実地検考録』には慶安年間、巫子伊知女創祀、正徳5(1715)年神職菊池惣太夫の時再営したとあり、更に『福山秘府』には「造立相知れず」と記されている。いずれにしても江戸前期には河野館の跡にまつられており、宝永5(1708)年には造り替えられたと伝えられている。 御朱印いただきました。「八」の文字が鳩の形でラッキーでした。 初穂料はお気持ちと書いてあったり、300円と口頭で言われたりとどっちなんでしょうね。 木製オリジナル御朱印帳がバージョン変わっていて御朱印込みで1800円です。

This was a nice shrine to visit in Hakodate. Very peaceful. The fact that it's on the mountainside gave this shrine a wonderful nature feel to the whole place.
