Sounzan Station is an important interchange between the Hakone Cable Car and Ropeway, offering plenty of value to visitors. The station’s observation area is located at a high elevation, providing a stunning panoramic view of the beautiful surrounding mountains. After enjoying the cable car ride, it’s easy to transition to the ropeway, making the journey very comfortable.
A particular highlight is the foot bath located in the observation area. Relaxing in the foot bath while enjoying the beautiful mountain views is the perfect way to unwind. It’s a soothing experience that allows you to take in nature at a slower pace. There is also a small shop at the station where you can enjoy snacks and drinks while taking a break.

Read moreReally bad experience in accessing and using the Hakone Ropeway. After planning a 2 day visit to the Hakone area for sightseeing I find that half the ropeway to get to lake Ashi was closed due to maintenance ,( understandable) but the other half closed on the day we visited due to mechanical issues without any notice to those left to line up for 45 minutes.
Absolutely no notice over the speaker in english considering they are trying to attract tourist dollars here. Completely hopeless. It has ruined my stay in this area and put a very bad taste in my mouth.
Please do not bother purchasing the 2 or 3 day free pass. It is not worth it. In fact consider skipping this entire area, ( Hakone ) and spend your hard earned dollars visiting or staying longer in cities like Kyoto.
The Hakone free pass is also not worth it for local attractions, as at best it will give you a 10% discount to local...
Read moreNice ropeway with panoramic view for the entire journey from Togendai station where you can see the lake all the way to the Sounzan station. This is part of the journey for the Hakone loops. This is definitely better than taking a bus. It is worth taking a bottle of water as it does get hot inside even with the roof vents open. It was well organised and the wait was not too bad.
If you want to visit Owakudani station and possibly sample the black egg, this is the best mode of transport because we saw a long queue for cars to get into the car park of Owakudani station. With the ropeway, there is no delay at all.
Highly...
