The Hakone Ropeway is the name of an aerial lift, as well as its operator. The funitel line links between Sōunzan and Tōgendai via Ōwakudani, all within Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan. The line became funitel in 2002, the second of its kind in the nation, after Hashikurasan Ropeway. It makes a part of the sightseeing route between Odawara and Lake Ashi. The company belongs to the Odakyū Group. Too crowded!!!

We had a fun time visiting the rope way! It was so cool to see the volcanic activity, but the rope way section that takes over the top of the more active parts was closed for maintenance. We chose to take the sky bucket down to the lake instead and weren’t disappointed. The views of Fuji were so pretty. It’s a little pricey, as is the food, but it was definitely a fun experience and memories made.

We got a great view of Mount Fuji from the cable car. Definitely best to go early as it wasn’t visible on our way back in the afternoon. It’s worth doing the boat trip over lake ashi. If you’re going to do both and get any other public transport I think it works out cheaper to get the ‘hakone free pass’. It’s not wells advertised so we didn’t know about it until after.

The connecting point where one takes the Ropeway to Owakudani, Hakone. If you have time, can cater some 15-30 mins for a footbath here at the rooftop, with a view, just before the entrance to the Ropeway.
