かざみどり — Restaurant in Hakone

Run by an old couple. I read other reviews that the service was slow, so I went in at 5pm. We were the only guests at that time, so no one to cook in front of us. Ordered the 3 pork set and an omurice for 4 people. Service took 15-20 minutes. I would suggest ordering the same dish and coming early to avoid any long waits too.

The food itself was good. As another review mentions, the rice oddly did not strike me as hot at all even though it was steaming, but rather lukewarm? I didn't really mind it though, the rice was good.

The pork was good, its cooked really soft which i really enjoyed. I think those of an older age would appreciate the softer meat more, as did my parents who continued to crave this meal days later. It has a really homemade feel to the whole meal in general.

Vegetables and the onion soup were more on the average side of things.

As we ate, the restaurant slowly filled up with both locals and another group of foreigners to nearlt its capacity, on a weekday. Despite the low amount of reviews here, it seems to be popular among both...

Not sure why others are giving this place a 5 star. It’s THE worst service in Japan. We were there with 4 people, ordered our first round of food and drinks. It took over 45min to get our drink but no sign of food..... So we asked the lone waiter if our order was coming and to our surprise, he responded “can’t you see we’re busy, others are patiently waiting so why can’t you!” Ai-yo that reverse anger kinda ticked me off so we decided to leave hungry after 1hr of waiting. The best curry thus far on our trip. I’ve been to Gora plenty of times and we just happen to stumble upon this place as it was across from the hotel we were at. I love heat, but I usually stay away from curry in Japan as it is too intense for me. My partner loves heat and we can’t usually share a dish. We shared the wagu set and the pork cutlet set. The wagu steak was great… but the wagu beef & pork cutlet curry rice set was perfection. The heat was perfectly balanced and the pork was so tender.
