Exceptional Stay at Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa
Our recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa exceeded all expectations, delivering an authentic Japanese hospitality experience that we will treasure for years to come. We recommend this resort hotel!
We experienced the benefits of the exceptional leadership and customer service by the General Manager and by the Assistant Manager Mr. Katsuyuki Hirose. General Manager Mr. Takuya Kishi and Assistant Manager Katsuyuki Hirose have clearly cultivated a culture of excellence throughout the property. Their attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction is evident in every interaction. We received personal assistance from Mr. Katsuyuki Hirose. Mr Hirose made our experience at the hotel excellent when he helped us arrange to enjoy a private sushi dinner. We are very thankful for his professional customer service. The staff is impeccably trained, professional, and genuinely caring - they anticipate needs before you even realize you have them. This level of service excellence reflects outstanding leadership and is a benefit to customers of the hotel.
From the moment we arrived, everything operated with remarkable efficiency. The check-in process was smooth and welcoming, setting a positive tone for our entire stay. We sat at table with the concierge to discuss reservations and plans as well as to get advice and maps. The complimentary hotel shuttle service provided by the Hyatt Regency runs with precision timing and comfortable transportation that makes exploring the Hakone area effortless.
The rooms are beautifully appointed and maintain the high standards you'd expect from Hyatt. Our room had large windows with breathtaking views of surrounding mountains and Mount Fuji,. The views that enhance the entire room experience. A special touch that added authentic Japanese charm is the robes/yukatas in each room - these traditional robes are perfect for relaxing.
Having an onsen, separate male and female, right on the premises is absolutely delightful. We enjoyed soaking in the therapeutic waters while surrounded by the natural beauty of Hakone. It's the perfect way to unwind after a day of sightseeing and truly embodies the relaxing spirit of a Japanese resort experience.
The breakfast at this property is wonderful. The extensive buffet has an impressive array of fresh fruits and vegetables that showcase the best of local Japanese produce. The selection of artisanal baked goods, warming soups like miso, premium teas, and coffee creates the perfect caffeinated start to each day. What sets this breakfast apart is the inclusion of fresh sashimi alongside traditional Western options like perfectly prepared eggs and bacon - omelettes, eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs can be made to order.
The Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa delivers an exceptional blend of international hospitality standards with authentic Japanese charm. Every aspect of the property reflects careful attention to guest comfort and satisfaction. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone seeking a memorable and comfortable stay in the beautiful...
Read moreThe hotel is not meeting Hyatt standards, certain parts of the room is updated while other parts are old and dirty. It feels like a cheap renovation was done and many things were left untouched.
The room view is beautiful and at a first glance it looks nice. The terrace was freezing, seems to be not insulated so we kept the doors closed and did not use it. The coffee machine is new but the kettle and fridge etc are very old.
The bed was fine and some of the room furniture is old with many stains and marks on them. The marks on the wall beside the mirror was just unacceptable, looked like blood or a bad spill. The carpet looked like it should have been replaced a long time ago. Even small things like a hair dryer having dust and pieces of hair in it just does not meet luxury hotel standards. The bathroom shower was bad specifically when you look at how dirty and old the shower hose was. The makeup chair in the bathroom was stained. For the price of a night stay and the Hyatt brand this was not meeting expectations. We have stayed at other Hyatt properties outside of Japan and they were much better maintained.
The breakfast was basic and it only opened at 7:30AM, eggs are ordered from a server and it was pretty slow service. There is a buffet with a coffee machine for drinks, soy was available. Not much of a selection of western breakfast items, there was a large selection of Japanese style breakfast.
The main issue with the hotel is the location and the lack of walkability within this area of Hakone. When we arrived at Gora station and called the hotel for the shuttle it picked us up very quickly and later in the day when we asked to go to the ropeway again the shuttle was very quick to drop us off. However, the shuttle only starts to operate at 9:45AM which is very late when the ropeway opens at 8:45AM and the whole point of spending the night at Hakone would be to beat the day trip traffic to the ropeway. The shuttle also stops operating around 7PM which is fine as the ropeway etc closes early. The bigger issue is that without a car or shuttle in Hakone you are stranded, it was very difficult to get a taxi. We got lucky by the lake in the evening to flag a taxi but when we were trying to leave at 8AM to head to train station even the hotel could not get us a Taxi as they were all busy. You can’t walk to the train station even if the google tells you, it’s very steep there is no sidewalk and it would be very dangerous specifically with how fast the drivers drive on those roads. The hotel did find us a solution and the employee shuttle dropped us off at the train station so that was very appreciated.
After seeing the state of the room we did not check out the spa and onsen facility.
Service was overall good, the staff was nice and friendly. They have complimentary snacks in the lobby during the day which was lovely. The lunch food in the restaurant in the lobby was good.
We were planning to stay 2 nights but cut our trip short after 1 night. Would not recommend staying at this Hyatt location, it needs some serious upgrades to meet the...
Read moreThe good:|• Excellent Onsen Hot Springs bath. For both the morning and evening shifts, the staff consistently stocked towels and kept the bathing area very clean. I like the water station as well. I would like to nominate the Izumi Onsen cleaning staff for an employee recognition award, they are very deserving of this!|• Well-kept and very clean Hyatt Regency Tatami Suite. My family members really liked how clean the beds were as well as nicely set-up futon in the Japanese tatami room. Thank you also for the welcome gift for my mother’s birthday, it was a very nice start to our stay!|• The breakfast with both Western and Japanese options are very good! My family especially liked the breakfast omelets, and I loved the egg benedict with salmon. The Japanese food options are the best. Keep up the good work on the breakfast service!|• Very professional and respectful staff members. They treated my family with respect.||Now, onto areas of Improvement:|• Hyatt Regency Hakone really needs to have an all-inclusive breakfast option and at the very least discounted dinner to be included across all reservations regardless of room or suite. This would make Hyatt Hakone extremely competitive when it comes to business & potentially long-term profits. Several Japanese Ryokans in Hakone that my family members have stayed at so far included both dinner and breakfast meals.|• According to my family members (females), there were several other customers in the Onsen bathing area that wore swimsuits into the Onsen bath without washing themselves. Several other Japanese Ryokan like Hoshino KAI have tutorial about manners at the Onsen bath and I feel that it would be a good idea for Hyatt Regency Hakone to provide a basic tutorial for all guests regarding how to use the Onsen bath so it would stay clean for all guests.|• Regarding hotel bus shuttle from Gora Station back to the hotel during the early evening after a long day of touring the Hakone Ropeway, the staff did not make this clear that the pick-up spot was north of the Gora station that involved stairs down and climbing the stairs back up through a tunnel. I had my 90-year-old grandmother riding a wheelchair that cannot walk very well and it seems like the driver at the time was irritated and unwilling to drive to the other side of the station where my grandmother with the wheelchair was located. After checkout, we spoke with the shuttle driver that took us to the Gora Station and was told that this issue would be addressed since there might be future customers with large amounts of luggage, family members with strollers carrying infants, or elderly family members that cannot walk very well. While I appreciate the other staff attempting to address this issue, clarification and accommodations of the Gora Station shuttle pickup and drop off needs to be discussed at your...
