The shrine houses number of Shinto temples. Toyokuni Shrine with five storied pagoda, Dalganji temple, which is one of most famous in Japan. The famous 16 metre Red coloured Torii gate, also known as floating gate built within the sea. We visited this place during our recent Japan trip. We travelled from Osaka on a day trip. The ferry ride is smooth and pleasant. The view of the Torii gate within the sea near the island coast is great. The island with it's hillock in the background covered with green foliage looks beautiful. The 15 minutes walk on the coastal road to the Shrine is truly pleasant. The wild deers roam freely and are quite friendly and ready for a photo shoot. The five storied pagoda, the wooden Dalganji temple complex, the Torii gate built on the sea bed are worth visit. The shopping street has number of Souvenir shops and eateries. You must try local speciality maple leaf pastry and oysters. A must visit in a Japan trip

Throwback from our Japan trip .. we are sharing one of the places we loved most while visiting Japan (although each place in Japan is unique) And it is no other than the famous Floating Tori gate in Miyajima island. Note- tori gate is under renovation until August 2020. You may not be able to see it properly before that.. please check before visiting . This is located on a small island away from mainland but very easy to reach. There is a ferry that runs between mainland and if you have a JR pass then you are all sorted and no need to even worry about additional costs. . . The ferry trip in itself is beautiful and as you approach the island you see the Iconic Tori gate in its full glory. It is built in such a way that if it is high tide it seems floating over water, but during low tide you can even walk under it. The shrine complex has a calendar indicating the timings of both each day, in case you wish to experience both. . . The shrine complex itself is a UNESCO world Heritage Site and consists of beautiful Japanese architecture buildings. . . The path from ferry pier to shrine is also very interesting. You can get up close to many deers found roaming freely on the way and of course an amazing market with some amazing food and gifts. . . So if you are in Japan, this is definitely not to miss place.

The grand torii gates are a sight to behold at any time of the day, but they truly come alive in different ways depending on the hour. In the morning, they exude a sense of majesty, standing tall and inviting as the sunlight gently filters through. It's a captivating sight that sets the tone for the day ahead. As the day progresses and the sun begins to set, the torii gates transform into a breathtaking display of colors. The golden hues of the sunset cast a warm glow upon the gates, creating a mesmerizing contrast against the surrounding landscape. It's a moment of pure beauty that leaves you in awe of nature's artistry. Yet, the true magic happens when darkness falls and the torii gates are illuminated by soft, radiant lights. The interplay of shadows and light creates a captivating ambiance, evoking a sense of wonder and enchantment. It's an ethereal sight that lingers in your memory long after you leave. Whether you visit in the morning, witness the stunning sunset, or experience the captivating allure of the illuminated gates at night, each moment offers a unique perspective and adds to the overall charm of this remarkable destination.

One of the major tourist attractions around Hiroshima, this temple complex is well worth a trip. You need to catch a ferry from the mainland that takes about 10 mins to cross. If you have a JR pass, the ferry is covered; just make sure you take the JR ferry. You can get to the ferry by train from Hiroshima station, or by team. The tram has the advantage of also going to the atomic bomb some. Due to the tides, the famous Tori Gate will either be in the water or on the beach. There are advantages to both. I have sent pictures of the gate at high tide, and they look amazing. However it was low tide when we arrived, which meant that we could walk right up to the gate. The temple complex is worth a visit. It costs only 300 yen to enter (2018), and an additional 200 to go to the treasury which is also worth visiting. Like most Shinto buildings, there is not a lot of ornamentation. The beauty lies in the simplicity. Very photogenic place. Between the Ferry terminal and the temple, there are dozens of souvenir and food shops. Yet it manages to not feel too tacky. And you can get tasty snacks at reasonable prices. Recommended.
