Worst zoo ever. It was placed as the number one attraction at Ikeda but I guess it's because no one visits that place. It is about 20 mins walk from the train station.
By foot from the train station, you are directed to walk up a steep slope. Very dangerous for kids. If you loose your balance, you will roll down to the main road. The zoo is on the right side. It does not look like a zoo, more like a farm. There were only few animals. The only ones we could pet was the alpaca. The larger section of the 'zoo' was closed the day we visited and their Facebook did not indicate any information. We only saw 3 animals; emu, pony and the alpaca. Total wasted my time and energy. Read moreFor a zoo with no entrance fee, Satsukiyama Zoo is a very generous & welcoming zoo to many. There are petting zones and several animals to see. Do note that most of the animals seen here are animals that can also be found in Australia, because of its sister city relationship with the Australian municipality of Launceston, Tasmania. It is also highly understandable that they don't take care of too many animals.
