Despite the beautiful views during hydrangea season and the historical significance, this shrine is not recommended for visiting. When I asked for a goshuin, the priest refused because I am Russian. In my several years of living in Japan, this is the first time I have encountered such a situation. Previously, I had visited this shrine multiple times without any issues regarding my nationality. It's unfortunate that religion and political views have become inseparable. What's next? Will people be refused based on gender, skin color, or other characteristics? Does such a person have the right to work in this field? I am deeply...
Read moreI went here for the cat, but he wasn't there 🥹. I visited on a rainy day, so we were the only tourists around. The counter had an intercom in case it was unattended, and they had a wide selection of omamori and goshuin with cat themes. I would've bought my goshuincho here if I already didn't have one. It's a bit hidden, but Google Maps is helpful for navigating the map.
The omamori with a cat was inexpensive (¥300) and cute. The goshuin also has a...
Read moreA sweet little shrine in Hase. Photos are banned inside the grounds because it's a shrine dedicated to the souls of departed ancestors, as evidenced by the large graveyard. However the Enoden runs just outside so it's still a popular location for photographers, some of whom had to be reminded by the staff that photos aren't allowed inside despite the clear signs. I got the seasonal goshuin which is lovely, they had other...
