Minatogawa Tunnel — Attraction in Kobe

This is probably the cutest place I encountered during my solo trip! The tunnel will be opened for public visit on the first Saturday afternoon (13:0015:00) of every month, and there will be a musics concert starring local musicians inside the tunnel on the third Saturday afternoon (13:30about 14:30)of every month! How cool!

I accidentally passed by this tunnel during my morning jogging. The tunnel was closed in the morning. There was a sign outside the tunnel entrance, introducing that this is the hugest river tunnel at the time it was finished, and without modern construction technology, it was actually built totally out of human hands.

The day I found it was luckily the first Saturday of that month, thus I decided to go back again in the afternoon for the public visit.

The public visit is held by local preservation committee members, who turned out to be extremely warm and welcoming uncles and aunties. They greet visitors passionately at the entrance, explain the history background, construction process and difficulties, news reports documents on the wall all the way down into the tunnel.

The tunnel itself is magnificent. It is sloping downward into the very bottom. The length, the height, the width, the steadfast brick structure are all marvelous. The fact that this is totally built by human hands, without modern technology, is utterly extraordinary.

I am especially grateful for all the uncles and aunties who kindly introduce the tunnel and chat with me. Although my Japanese is still in progress, it felt amazing to have the opportunity to know local people! Next time I will definitely arrange time for the music concert on the...

Thanks again google for ruing my plans out here 🙄. This is only open the first and third Saturday of the month and you cannot access it outside of those hours so wasted a bunch of money and effort to get there. Hope to see it someday, but Google really messed me up...

2024.11.9追記 年に1回の、「土木の日」新湊川ウォーク～湊川隧道通り抜け～に参加してまいりました。朝イチの10時からの回に事前応募し、無事当選（一日3,000人限定らしい）。

ゴールの長田付近に駐車し、まずは入口である湊川隧道を目指して歩きました。逆流する感じですね。で、湊川隧道に着いたらメール文を見せ名前を告げて入場チェックを受けます。

受付後、以前も来た入口から入ります。暫く下り坂を進み歩きますと、以前見た柵が。今日は柵の向こう側へ進みます。

足元は水が流れているので、ジメジメベトベトしていますので、泥が跳ね、ズボンや靴が汚れますので服装は要注意です。

大体所要時間は30分ぐらいでしょうか？ひたすらトンネルを歩き、そして出口を出た後も川沿いを歩き、ゴールの長田まで歩きました。

ゴール出口では限定トンネルカードと、アンケートに回答して缶バッジをいただきました。また参加するか？は微妙ですが、よい経験になりました。

2024.8.3訪問 月に１回の隧道見学（音楽イベントが無い方）に来ました。ちなみに隧道とは英語でいうトンネルの意です。阪神淡路大震災で大きな損傷を受け、代わりとなる新湊川トンネルが2000年に出来てお役御免となった河川トンネルだそうです。

全長600mのトンネルをノミやツルハシを使って会下山を人力で掘った明治の先人たちの苦労が偲ばれます。

帰りには見学記念に隧道トンネルカードをいただきました。ダムカードと同じような感じかな？全国にはどんなトンネルカードがあるのやら、、、

ちなみに、年に１回、土木の日である１１月１８日周辺で、湊川隧道を含む新湊川約1.7kmを歩くイベントが開催されるの...
