The beach is filthy during the summer, the water is dirty and the atmosphere is terrible with drunken idiots and loud music. I almost cut my foot on glass in the water. Someone left a broken vodka bottle on the sand.
There’s a police box 50m away, I hate to wonder why. It doesn’t feel like Japan in this beach. Go during the afternoon, at night time there’s always trouble makers running around.
If you want to more family fun relaxed place stay on the JR train and go three stations further to Asagiri, You will notice a difference change in atmosphere and yet you will still have an amazing view on the beach.
Or if you want an idiot drunken fun time stay at Suma beach, Remember to put on sunscreen and drink plenty of water or you might be in embarrassment...

Just sitting at the beach is alright but the water isn't great and the sand is ok too. However I think that it's proximity to Osaka is why it's so popular, and it's not the worst beach ever, just not great.
