駒札： 素盞嗚尊を主神とし、宇賀御魂命、伊弉冉命、誉田別尊などを配祀する。 社伝によれば貞観十一年（869）京の都に疫病が流行したとき、牛頭天王（素盞嗚尊）の神霊を播磨国広峰（現在の兵庫県姫路市）から勧請して鎮疫祭を行った。この時その神輿を梛の林中に置いて祀ったことがこの神社の始まりであるという。 後に神霊を八坂（今の八坂神社）に遷祀したとき当地の住人は花を飾った風流傘を立て、鉾を振り、音楽を奏して神輿を八坂に送った。これが後の「祇園会（祇園祭）」の起源と伝えられる。また、当社は八坂神社の古址にあたり、元祇園社と呼ばれる。 維新の頃は田んぼの中の一小祠であったが、明治七年（1874）と昭和四年（1929）の復興を経て現在に至る。 境内の隼神社は建甕槌神、経津主神を祀り、「延喜式　神明帳」にも載る大社であり、大正七年（1918）蛸薬師坊城からこの地に移された。梛神社とともに厄除け、疫病払いの神である。 例祭は梛神社が五月の第三日曜日。隼神社が十一月十七日である。 京都市 Piece card: With Susanoo no Mikoto as the main deity, Ugamitama no Mikoto, Izanami no Mikoto, Honda Wetsu no Mikoto, etc. are enshrined.
