Genbei river was a fun excursion! I was riding the rented bike from my hotel and I thought I’d go site-seeing in the Mishima area. I first went to the Temple and did my routinary prayers to the gods. It was a short bike ride to the river, as soon as I got there and parked my bike, I heard the laughs of happy kids. There were families there who were cooling off from the very hot and humid sunday(34C).
I took off my shoes and started walking riverside. It is not a big river,only about 4 meters wide and about 2 feet deep. It has a good current where kids can float on the floaties. The water was cold and refreshing and VERY CLEAN!! It was clear and it did not have any smells. What makes it all perfect is that the whole river was under a canopy of trees and there were lots of places to sit down and just relax.

源兵衛川には遊歩道(飛び石など含む)が整備され、浅いので子どもの川遊びする人も。流れ早いときは要注意。夏はホタルもいるとか。市内なのに涼しさを感じられる。
専用の駐車場🅿️はないのでTimesやコインパーキングにとめよう。

Genbegawa River, Shizuoka, central Japan🇯🇵
The Genbei River is selected as one of the top 100 famous waters. The name Genbei River originates from Terao Genbei, the local shugo who constructed irrigation canals to develop rice fields in the late Muromachi period of the 16th century. "Irrigation canal approximately 1,500m long. Water source is Obama Pond (in Rakujuen), where spring water from Mt. Fuji gushes out."
There is a promenade (including stepping stones) along the Genbei River, and since it is shallow, some children play in the river. Be careful when river flow is fast. There are also fireflies in the summer. You can feel the coolness even though you are in the city.
