Nagano Prefectural Art Museum — Attraction in Nagano

Very worth to visit, love the museum architecture and kai gallery. Museum is hot in winter and staffs are polite but feels too formal for foreigners standard. Nevertheless its still worth a visit and you can combine it with zenkoji temple visit

I find this museum to be staid, unimaginative, and without heart. I am not talking about the art; it's the curation that I dislike - too formal with a lack of any color or insight. The museum's most heinous crime is the need of interaction between the art and those viewing it. I wish I would have learned something other than what I read on the information panels about the Democrat Art Association which was quite interesting by the way. I wish there would have been some sort of displays to help me understand and feel the art itself. Knowledge is God and it is the only path to understanding. Please consider this. I went on a Friday to the Art Museum in order to see the Toshio Suzuki and Ghibli exhibition and it was a great choice.

There was no wait, they had both Japanese and English explanations at the ticket booth and purchase and entrance was seamless...

The decor was great and the art was nice. Unfortunately, ALL OF THE EXPLANATIONS were in Japanese, I had to take a picture of all the frames, I wanted to read about (without even knowing which I wanted to read since all I understood were the images 😂) and read the Google translation off my phone.

Overall it was awesome but kind of bummed it was 100% in Japanese. I guess I'm in Japan though so that's my fault, I should've learned...
