I highly recommend DOT Hostel Nagano to anyone traveling though the area. After spending 3 days at the Guest House, we did not feel like leaving. It's a new and really clean place. The dormitory room is big and the beds comfortable. Each one has a curtain that provides privacy, as well as individual light and power outlet. There is a big common area with a really nice Sake Bar and a huge kitchen equipped with everything you can imagine. The owner, Hara Yoshinao, is a great guy and speaks perfect English (we made our reservation by phone). He is always willing to help. The rest of the staff is very friendly and speaks English as well. The location is perfect, 3 minutes walking from the main tourist attractions (Zenkō-ji temple). Many restaurants and convenience stores all around. Overall, a great spot to stay...
Read moreEverything people have said about this hostel, owner, staff, and guests are all true. I will try to comment on some other things. The kitchen is fully equipped and has lots of space to move about and cook. The hostel might not be right next to Nagano JR station, but it is situation closer to Nagano's more well known areas (such as Zenkoji Temple with its 6:30 am public service) and puts you in good position for travelling to nearby locations, like Obuse. Nagano might be cold, but the rooms never are, especially the common room with its sake bar. The house is traditional and comfortable and clean.||||If you want to be able to get right into the heart of Nagano, her different activities, and her people,...
Read moreVery cozy small hostel in a traditional Japanese house. You can either choose bunk bed dorm style room or a private room. Free toast for breakfast and super friendly and gelphel staffs who speak English quite well! Fairly clean shared shower, toilet, and kitchen. There are only 1 sshowe and toilet and I think there are about 12-15 beds available so could be a little crowded. But I never actually had to wait. Super close to the Zenkoji and nice shopping street with lots of food. To be noted though, you have to climb a slightly steep stairs with no railing (traditional Japanese stairs) to the bedroom, so might not be suitable for people who have...
