Naoshima Kagawa Lacquer Art Gallery — Attraction in Naoshima

Fantastic gallery and shop housing some really beautiful lacquerware goods from the Kagawa region/style. Most of the items on display are also for sale, and they also have a smaller shop area containing more affordable items. The lady who showed us around was very interesting to talk to and explained a lot about the techniques used. I came here today and almost missed it because the building is up a flight of stairs and around the corner. I’m so glad I didn’t miss it though. The owner was unbelievable and explained every details to me using a translation app. She was enthusiastic and so kind and helped me understand all the art I was seeing. Beautiful and serene place full of exquisite lacquer craft. A place where they really appreciate genuine artisanal craft. The staff are friendly and spent a long time giving me a tour and explaining things (via language translator).
