I did not realize that there was such a charming park in Narita, only 10 minutes or so by train from Narita Airport. We stayed at a hotel across from the park and did quite a bit of walking around. The park seemed quite large. I particularly enjoyed the (somewhat steep) stairs up to the gate, which had a shaded area almost like a grotto with turtle-shaped stone structures in the water. (My kanji recognition is limited, but I think it was Shinshouji Nioumon.) The main (?) temple, Shinshouji, was well worth the climb up the stairs and set in beautiful grounds. West of the main temple, I saw what looked like selling stands reminiscent of those near Sensoji in Tokyo, but they were closed on a Tuesday morning when I was there. Read moreLovely park near Narita Airport. You can access from Narita station which is one station from Narita airport station. Then you can walk from station around 15 minutes. On the way on going to park we can found many stalls from souvenir, clothing, foods, photo studio. And we turn left into big temple. So this park is located on the hill behind the temple. There is free museum inside park which open until around 4 PM. And there is Koi Pond which is becoming an icon of this park. When we came, the beautiful maple tree beside the pond is turning yellow. Also there are some seats located near toilet and perfect for small picnic. Really recommend for...
Read moreFree tour if you sign up at Narita airport counter landside. This means you have to go through immigration and get your passport stamped so you can leave the airport. A five hour tour with an English speaking guide and you don't pay anything except for your train ticket to the Shrine area and back. I took this tour and it was the guide and myself, no one else. It was 40 degrees Fahrenheit and I did not have any winter clothes since this was my 9 hour layover from Bangkok on my way to Seattle.I was freezing the whole time but it was worth it. Great guide, beautiful sorroundings. I will be coming back for the other free...
