Yumeji Art Museum — Attraction in Okayama

This is a great museum if you are a fan of Yumeji. If not, then you can probably skip this one.

The English signage is very minimal (limited pretty much to titles of works). If you know any Japanese, the interpretive materials are not too hard to read.

It was really wonderful to see so many original artworks by Yumeji san. The museum did a good job explaining his life and the context of his work.

For those who don’t know, Takehisa Yumeji is a very popular artist. His work, especially paintings of women, typify the “Taisho Roman” or the quintessential style of the Taisho era. A lot of his works were published in popular media such as books and magazines. His work was influential in popular art and he remains famous in Japan to this day. I hope he can gain some more fans...

The museum was really organised in terms of labelling and directions to exhibition rooms. Though small, but there is a wide variety of original works by Mr Yumeji himself. It'll be good if the artwork descriptions or pamphlets had English so it can cater to more foreign visitors.

But overall the whole walking through experience, and the architecture of the building was very beautiful.

【Former site of Korakuen Station】 It was built on the site of the discontinued Korakuen Station, the terminal station of the Saidaiji Railway. Korakuen Station - Morishita Station - Haraojima Station (I, II) - Fujiwara Station - Daishi Station - Zaida Station - Nagatoshi Station - Otara Station - Hirotani Station - Saidaiji Station. Okayama has interesting abandoned railroad tracks such as Shimotsui Electric Railway and Dowa Mining Katakami Railway. The former site of the Dowa Mining Katakami Railway is not in an urban area, so it has not been developed much.

【「後楽園駅」の跡地】 廃止された西大寺鉄道のターミナル駅である「後楽園駅」の跡地に建設されたとのことです。後楽園駅ー森下駅ー原尾島駅（Ⅰ、Ⅱ）ー藤原駅ー大師駅ー財田駅ー長利駅ー大多羅駅ー広谷駅ー西大寺市駅があったそうです。岡山には下津井電鉄や同和鉱業片上鉄道跡地など興味深い廃鉄跡があります。同和鉱業片上鉄道跡地は市街地ではないのであまり開発されず、今も跡地がサイクリングロードとして残存したり、駅跡がそのまま残っています。

【“고라쿠엔 역”의 흔적】 폐지된 니시다이지 철도의 터미널역인 「고라쿠엔역」의 터에 건설되었다고 합니다. 고 라쿠엔 역 - 모리시타 역 - 하라 오시마 역 (Ⅰ, II) - 후지와라 역 - 다이시 역 - 재다 역 - 나가리 역 - 오타라 역 - 히로야 역 - 니시 다이지시 역이 있었다고합니다. 오카야마에는 시모쓰이 전철과 동화광업 편상철도 터 등 흥미로운 폐철 터가 있습니다. 동화광업 편상철도 터지는 시가지가 아니기 때문에 별로 개발되지 않고, 지금도 터지는 사이클링 로드로서 잔존하거나, 역 흔적이...
