今川氏が統治していた室町時代の三日市場に端を発し武田氏の運営する城下町を経て江戸時代の始まり1601年の五街道制定に伴い東海道五十三次18番目の宿場町としてスタートしました。宿場の範囲は東の辻の木戸から西の入江の木戸までの長さ約２ｋｍで途中巴川を渡る稚児橋を挟み５．４ｍ幅の道に沿って続いていました。太平洋戦争末期の1945年(昭和20年)7月7日に米軍空襲を受け街並みは軒並み焼失し以前の遺構はほとんど残されていません。それでも現地に立ってみると街道に沿って立ち並ぶ狭い間口と深い奥行きを持つ建物や建物の形を遺す空き地から宿場町の残り香をわずかに感じとることができます。(2019-04-03)

東海道五十三次の18番目の宿場である。 現在の静岡県静岡市清水区の中心部にあたる。 駿河湾に注ぐ巴川の河口付近に発達した宿場町である。 江戸時代以前の戦国時代には武田氏家臣馬場信春により江尻城が築かれ城下町化して栄え始めたという 清水港に近く江戸時代には江戸への物流拠点となった。 清水次郎長ゆかりの地であり次郎長の生家や菩提寺 次郎長の船宿「末廣」などが残る

静岡市清水区(旧清水市)江戸時代は江尻宿と呼ばれてました💡江尻宿は海辺から巴川を使って船で江尻宿まで荷物を運んだり、山側からは木材を運んだりして同時は賑わってたみたいです。今は清水銀座の辺りに同時の江尻宿の事についての標示があり、散策するにもいい所です🌱
