本宮大社の北側にあります。ヤタガラスのポストから本殿脇を歩くと2､3分で、参道下の鳥居の右から舗装路を上ると数分で着きます。熊野古道中辺路を西から歩いて来ると最終の王子であり、熊野本宮の参詣前に身を清める、御祓を行う場所として重要な意味を持っていたとのことです。ちなみに舗装路は途中で斜度がきつくなります。
