茶房珍重庵 本宮店 — Restaurant in Tanabe

We went here after our walk on the Kumano Kodo Section during summer, so we were in badly needed shape of something cold and got some Kakigori. To be honest anything would’ve been delicious at that point, but we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the Matcha Kakigori was and the Angko underneath. It was actually noteworthy delicious. Very much recommended.

The shop is located in a building that’s very architectural, so if you’re into contemporary architecture you probably could also enjoy that.

The only minus is that it’s very cold (the air conditioning was cold), and they still had the Covid blinds on to separate each table—though maybe it adds...

Came here on a cold rainy spring day, we got the soba noodles sets and it was so good I forgot to take photos. The food really does warm your heart whether you’re about to go for a hike or finish your hike. It’s perfect place to stop by here for some soba in a very modern concrete building. The venue has a souvenir section as well so even if you don’t dine in you can take some of their sweets home. We opted for the matcha with sweets, it was a delectable way to finish your meal. Sabo Chinchoan Hongu – Soba & “Mehari-zushi” After Visiting Kumano Hongu Taisha 🍃 Located near the sacred Kumano Hongu Taisha, this cozy Japanese teahouse serves a traditional Mehari-zushi and Zaru Soba set. The warm rice wrapped in pickled mustard leaves (Mehari-zushi) was flavorful and surprisingly filling after the long walk along the Kumano Kodo trail.
