【The Japanese-style wing of the former Maeda family's Komaba Main Residence】 The Japanese-style building was completed one year after the construction of the Western-style building, and it is said to have served more as a guesthouse for guests from abroad to learn about and experience Japanese culture, such as tea ceremonies and flower arrangement, than as a place for the Maeda family to live. The first floor consists of a 40-tatami-mat hall and a tea ceremony room, while the second floor is a shoin-style building with a large, open-worked corridor and transom carvings on the transoms, all the best features of Japanese architecture. The splendid garden viewed from the veranda, with its stone lanterns and Nishikigoi carp in the pond, makes one feel as if they are in Kyoto. There is a second floor, but the second floor can only be seen on a free guided tour, and those who have time should take the guided tour. The Western-style building and the Japanese-style building are connected by a corridor, and it is interesting that they are half Japanese-style and half Western-style and are connected to each other.

Two historical buildings in a medium-sized park, one in Japanese style, the other faux-European. I prefer the Japanese one. It has a beautiful garden and a fantastic minimalist layout. The house of the Marquis is too stiff for my taste. You'll also find the Museum of Modern Japanese literature in the park, so all in all, it is not a bad place to spend a few hours.

British aristocrat country side style mansion with a Japanese style house as well. Plan for about 45 mins. There is an elevator for making the place accessible. If you have seen western palaces castles or be the like and are short on time you could give it a miss. Very well maintained property and an important part of...
