🎏 Tokyo Shinjuku 🌃: The Charm of Urban Corners

Our second stay at Hundred Stay Tokyo Shinjuku, and still as impressive as ever, even for our large group of 6 (2 children, 2 adults, 2 elders). The location is wonderful, the neighbourhood feels safe, 2 JR stations within very close proximity allowed us to travel everywhere we wanted to go. The area is bustling with convenience stores, local grocery stores, cafés, dessert shops, various japanese and other ethnic restaurants, and possibly everything you could possibly need. Although our booking was made through Agoda, but as we needed to add an extra night to our booking, I first contacted the hotel to check about availability for an earlier check-in and received a swift and helpful reply from the staff, which - once followed through with Agoda Customer Service - was all resolved very quickly and efficiently. Our suite consisted of 2 bedrooms - a larger one with 4 beds, and a smaller one with 2 futons - which was spacious and more than enough for our family. The Suite also had 2 separate toilets, a lovely and relatively spacious bathroom with a bathtub and a shower, and the 2 wash basins in an adjoining room was extremely useful for our group. The Suite also had a moderately sized living area with a large dining table, and a mini kitchen area that was well equipped with all the necessary cooking and dining equipment we could have required. Also, very fortunately, the unit was equipped with a washing-drying machine that was certainly handy. Check-in and check-out was effortless and fast, the staff were all very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The unit was well stocked with all the amenities and extremely prepared for us upon our arrival, and was continually kept clean and restocked daily, so that we never had to make additional requests for extra supplies of anything (drinking water, towels, etc). The management had also provided an instruction manual for the operation of all equipment in the unit, which was also very handy for us when we decided to use the washing machine. Also very thoughtful was the calendar of local activities that was positioned in the elevator, providing details, dates, venues, and useful directions for getting to each place. Overall, another extremely satisfied stay at the Hundred Stay Tokyo Shinjuku. Glad to see that the quality has remained wonderful, the hotel is still in great condition, very well maintained, and the staff are still very dedicated and professional. Thank you for a delightful experience. 😊👍 A sidenote for travelers who may be anxious about traveling here, we (2 children, 2 adults, and 2 seniors) took the NEX from Narita Airport to Shinjuku Station, switched trains, and traveled one more stop to Okubo Station. There is an elevator on one end of the station that was extremely useful for our luggage, exited the station, crossed the road right outside the station and walked only a littler further to the hotel. As long as it is not during the morning or evening rush hour, it is very do-able and much less hassle than it sounds. 😊

Rooms are cleaned every 4 days so you would have to stay a minimum of 5 days to actually benefit from the cleaning service. They do provide additional towels and trash bags every day, but for a hotel at this price, I would expect it to be cleaned daily or at the very least every other day. Even cheaper hotels in the states will have daily cleaning as an option and I was under the false pretense that Japan had better customer service. The shower does not have a curtain or complete glass door, it is a partial glass door so as you shower, water will splash everywhere on the bathroom floor. There is a drain next to the tub to account for overflow when you bathe, but if you shower, you will have to wipe the the floor every time unless you want to walk around in puddles of water whenever you use the sink. We utilized their services to send our luggage to our next hotel in Kyoto. We sent a total of 5 suitcases and paid 12490 yen and they ended up losing two of our suitcases. Luckily the front desk at our Kyoto hotel was very kind and helpful. She had to call around to eventually find our luggage (something she shouldn’t have had to do for us because it was not her fault in any way) and we were very grateful she did that for us. The location was very convenient and is the only highlight of our stay. We were on the 21st floor but our room faced the residential areas so the view was okay. Response to reply: Why would there be different plans for something that should be a standard service? You might as well add a plan for new towels daily or new towels every 4 days at this point. My brother and I are both doctors in the U.S. Do you think that we’re dumb enough to not notice a door to close the shower? You are contracted with that company to deliver our luggage so their service is a reflection upon you as well. By providing this service, you are vouching for their quality, if their service is bad, you should utilize a different company. I also think it shows poor character to throw them under the bus like that too. Please at least own to it and take partial responsibility. Disappointing response from this business.

Great location with many restaurants in the area! If you’re into K-Pop, you’ll love this area! It’s got Korean cosmetics, Korean desserts, Korean bbq & Korean street food all on the same street as Hundred Stay! The rooms are spacious and clean. And they have a hotel card reader outside the hotel after 10pm for safety reasons. Each room has an intercom in case someone needs to get in and someone is in the room. They have a convenient vending machine outside the elevators downstairs so you don’t have to leave the building. But if you need food, there’s an Aeon supermarket on ground level that’s open 24 hours! The best thing about Hundred Stay is the staff! We experienced a mishap and they helped resolve it. My daughter dropped our pocket WiFi at the Shinkansen station from Osaka to Tokyo. We couldn’t search for it since the train was going to leave for Tokyo in 5 minutes. Our option was leave the lost WiFi or miss the bullet train! Well, we left for Tokyo knowing the pocket wifi was somewhere at the train station. I told the train staff regarding our lost unit. Then when I had arrived at the hotel, I also told the staff at Hundred Stay Shinjuku. They contacted the station and wrote a report regarding the lost unit. A day later, it was recovered! Then it was sent from Osaka to Tokyo by express parcel one day arrival. I was going to lose $300USD if I could not recover the unit. It is finally back with us and it is still in working condition. What a relief! So I would like to thank the staff of Hundred Stay Shinjuku on their efforts in assisting us!! Due to the language barrier, I could not do this without their help! Very thankful and with much gratitude!

Cons: - ROOMS/HOTEL DO NOT LOOK AS NICE - Random stains on walls and floor, wall paper peeling, sockets falling off, dusty shelves - Cleaning schedule 10-12 so need to leave room early for them to clean room - Seems to be a different cleaner each day and there always seems to be something wrong with the room (pillows left on dusty bed head, cups not exchanged, no vacuuming, gowns not left for us...) - did not give us new slippers each day, by the end of the week they were so dirty… at least give a new pair every 2 days - Sink space too small and wash basin drains too slow, splashes everywhere - light switches in weird places and cannot turn off all lights when leaving - Thin walls, got woken up by vacuum - Bath tub takes too long to fill up and too small, cannot stretch out legs when laying back - Limited tv channels, need to sign up to view - Okubo station is a bit annoying because if you need to get to shibuya or other major stations, you need to transfer to shin-okubo Pros: - separate bathroom and toilet area, bathtub - free laundry but the lint collection for the dryer isn’t cleaned out regularly enough so your clothes come out with lots of lint stuck to them - Water pressure strong - Room was biggest out of the hotels we stayed at (at expense of smaller bathroom)

I stayed here when I visited Japan to run the Tokyo marathon. The employees of this hotel worked so hard to ensure a good stay for me from the start of the booking process to checkout. When I first booked the room, I sent a message to the hotel to see if they knew of local vegan options because I knew it might be difficult to find. Upon checkin, they provided me with a printout of several locations that offer vegan options, a map of the area circling these places, and offered to help me place an order if need be. The entire establishment is beautifully decorated, and there is a nice lounge area for large groups. There is laundry for guests too. My room was gorgeous and had an incredible view of the city. On clear mornings I could see the mountains in the distance. My bed was very cozy, but the comforter is exceptionally warm so don’t bring heavy pajamas. The location is amazing- I felt very safe even at night when I was alone. Several train stations are just a few minutes walk away and there are countless restaurants and shops within walking distance as well. The staff speaks English and they will do whatever they need to ensure you are comfortable.
