Roka Koshun-en Park is park made on former establishment of famous Japanese writer and philosopher Kenjirō Tokutomi aka Roka Tokutomi. As part of the park is his house with garden and bamboo forest, memorial center, graveyard, shrine, all free to access. You can leave voluntary support money. To me most fascinating thing about this park are forest like trees, a tall and thick trees that can provide cool in summer day. It is around 40 minutes walk from Sophia Soshigaya International House, and if you are staying or about to stay in this dorm, and have kids, I would recommend visiting this place. Odakyu line bus No. 20 going to Chitose Funabashi will take you near, and you will have around 7 minutes walk from the bus stop. Radio taiso at 6:30 am, two dog runs, a traditional Japanese house you can tour, a bamboo grove, a shrine, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, numerous varieties of hydrangeas, gardenia, sunflowers, lavender, amazing fall foliage, playgrounds…the list could go on and on! Read moreGreat park with lots of different attractions. The main of which is actually the dog park (dog run) that’s pretty big and if you have a dog it will most probably have fun. There is also a nice cherry blossoms area and a magical bamboo forest. The second part is a compound dedicated to Japanese philosopher Kenjirō Tokutomi whose pseudonym was Roka and the garden is named in his honor.
