When we hear about galleries or art museums we go back in time in Ashmolean museum which was the first ever and the oldest museum in the world 🌏and you can imagine the amount of history heritage that is diplayed in Ashmolean, i bet it goes back to B. C💭💭. There are other museums like the Louvre and the Smithsonian that came at the early centuries 💬at different parts of the world🌍. In Africa, Kenya🇰🇪 precisely had the absence of organised documents📒📖📚📔📘📝 and objects that would have had a place to be stored🏛 at the early centuries. The perspective of that era was bringing a different narrative based on the people 👦👧👨👩👲👳👮👷💂🕵.But today we can happily celebrate 👏part of our heritage thanks to Nairobi Gallery .The building itself is an iconic and distinctive building which is also referred as point zero In the C.B.D.. Which has a history of it's own. It was built in 1913 and started as a civil service building which by then was referred to as hatches 🐣👼,matches 💑👫 and dispatches 🏳🏳🖋.Then later in 1963 it became the first Nairobi Provincial Commissioner's👮 Office🏠 for the natives .Today this building serves as a museum and a national monument. Some of them call it the National Gallery, But to most it's called The Joseph Murumbi's gallery because 3/4 of the items and objects were collected by Joseph Murumbi during his exile in the UK and each time he got foreign minister's assignments and duties in different countries in the world. Everything he had collected brought meaning and understanding 😇during the slave era and colonialism in Africa. And when you visit this particular museum you get to learn more and be able to get a sense of community and places by celebrating and enjoying a collection heritage of our own.. For the history and art lovers this is a place to call home 😊and have the best experience of how we transitioned economically in terms of currencies .... Then our fashion.....the type of jewelry we wear.... Our interior deco ...(for example the objects he (joseph murumbi) had for his office and living room) ...also the books for how the maumau fought and last but not least the materials they used in war during their war era. As much as somethings will remain in the past some materials most precisely on fashion the kikoi's ,vitenge's and jewelry are still used on our day to day lives... It's just that we modify them to fit the fashion sense of today... But basically nothing much has really changed meaning we are still portraying part of the heritage and this place just relives it day by day....

Situated in perhaps what is widely regarded as Nairobi's first administrative headquarters, Nairobi Gallery features an ecclectic collection of Africana, most of which comprises of artefacts, artworks and memorabilia from the collection of Joseph Murumbi, Kenya's second Vice President. The collection is rich and features a diverse collection of African art and cultural displays from all reaches of the continent as far as Gabon and from Ethiopia as well as a host of other countries. Notably, it includes works featured by African Heritage as well as several other artists and organizations that were dedicated to the conservation of the arts and culture in the country. In addition, Nairobi Gallery also regularly features exhibitions of local and visiting artists as well as thematic exhibitions which usually run anywhere from two weeks up to three months at a time. The gallery is operated by the National Museums of Kenya and is one of the lesser-known cultural sites in Kenya; perhaps due to it's understated nature and location. The buildings housing the gallery are among the oldest in Nairobi dating back to 1909 and were the original administrative headquarters of the city. The building seems misplaced in the growing city shadowed by the towering skyscappers around it. This gallery is well-worth the visit, a must for those culturally-inclined.

Not necessarily tourist friendly entry or signage. Suppose it’s a challenge due to location between highway construction and immigration building. Once you do get in 1000ks tourist fee seems worth it, I guess? The building is beautiful and not highlighted enough nor appreciated, maintenance is lacking. A star off for that in hopes that maintenance is in the future. Once inside a quiet place with decent information and large collection. Begins with contemporary Kenya artists but quickly shifts to more traditional arts and crafts. Overall the place. Could use a good update, or rebrand and certainly cleaning. If into weaving and fabrics this is a good visit and covers quite a portion of Africa. There’s also a large collection dedicated to the founder of the collection, Joseph and Sheila Murumbi. Then there’s a wing with items for sale while another for amateur art. I guess I was expecting a deeper dive into national artists as opposed to art of Middle Africa, and the life and times of the founder of art collection.

Let's meet up for an authentic Kenyan cup of coffee, enjoy good art, culture and history! A big shout out to Alan Donovan and Okoth who was my guide during my visit. I was intrigued to learn so much through Murumbi's Collection. If you are a person who loves history, culture, art and great coffee you must visit this place. I learnt so much about me as a Kenyan and there things that motivated my heart to want to make a difference in the way we promote local talents and preserve our culture and history. If you are keen to learn I recommend you ask for Okoth to guide you as he was patient and very detailed in his narration of all the pieces there. Next to the Gallery is a famous coffee joint called pointzero. Kenya is know for it's authentic coffee and tea experience and this is a great place to have a taste of that. If you are new in town, the place is near the immigration office and opposite GPO bus stop. Have fun!

It is like a very small gallery plus a very small museum. Totally like 300/400 square meters, it is like a 4/5 bed room g+0 building. It is really very small. Museum, like three room with something, woods, clothes, one living room of a older president? Not sure sorry. no comments. Gallery, two room with normal artwork with a price tag from 20,000 kes to 100,000 kes. Nothing special same as anywhere art shops you can find in Nairobi. Not recommended at all. By the way tickets price for citizens 150, residence 600 and non residence 1000KES. You need write done your phone number and passport number and in and out time at the gate. So I noticed mostly people stay there within one hour.

What a place to visit for anyone who appreciates creativity, art and culture! It was so wonderful to see the collections of artifacts and exquisite display of some of the most creative minds and hands in Kenya, East Africa and beyond. Here, you get to appreciate the diversity afforded to us as a country, and even as humanity, and render it all beautiful. It is a center to go feed your soul and eyes with elegannce
