Best part of kuwait. Unfortunately they're losing a lot of the traditional stores which are being replaced by the stereotype cafe or burger joint. How sad that the culinary industry is losing it's authentic kuwaiti history to be replaced by Americanized coffee shops and burger joints. Kuwaiti's seem intent on erasing their historical identity. However, KTV seems to be organizing programs that lean on traditional Kuwaiti folk dance during the cooler months. Let's hope they keep it up! Update: traditional cafes are making a comeback as the more westernerized coffee shops seem to be struggling and going out of business. There is a certain consumer group that seeks affordable food and drink that dominates this market. Most of which come from South Asian expats. The rest from older retired Kuwaitis as regulars and during the winter months GCC tourists and many Eastern Saudi residents who enjoy traditional markets and who also aim for a specific budget. Update: the non-traditional cafe's have lost ground more or less and even McDonald's shutdown in it's prominent spot of algharabaly street. The perfume market that burnt down along with Kuwait's oldest and first liver and heart skewer restaurant are being rebuilt finally. They are in the initial stages of work as of February 2023.. But nothing has changed yet. Some of the shop owners are anticipating at least 2 years before they can open up again. Latest update: the frames for the burnt buildings have been raised. Maybe construction...

Souq Al-Mubarakiya is a souq in Kuwait City, Kuwait. It is one of the oldest souqs in Kuwait, and was the center of trade prior to the discovery of oil.

This popular traditional market is located in Kuwait City, between Abdullah Al-Mubarak, Abdullah Al-Salem & Palestine Streets. This market has been around for at least 200 years. The market was damaged during the Iraqi invasion in 1990, however it was renovated and it got back its traditional flavor.

You can spend hours in this market strolling around and discovering reasonable bargains on heritage goods such as Persian silk carpets, real Arab antiques, perfumes like musk and oud, and traditional costumes. This place is perfect whether you want to shop, eat, or for sightseeing. Al-Mubarakiya features a variety of shops such as dates, honey, spices, sweets, vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish. In addition to a range of shops accessories, gold and silver jewelries. The market also hosts two mini museums: Sheikh Mubarak Kiosk and the first Islamic pharmacy in Kuwait, and admission is free. There is a courtyard near Al-Bahar or Sea Mosque, where you can find traditional cafes brewing their teas over coals, and several small restaurants are lined-up where they serve authentic Arabic, Indian, Persian food to the customers in the open air. The prices are the cheapest in Kuwait. On hot summer days, water mist is sprayed from pipes over the tables to give you a cooling feeling. A children playground is nearby and shisha is...

If you want to visit the old market and bazar of kuwait 🇰🇼 that is revamped and renovated with modern looks, then you must visit Al Mubarakiya. Everything there is well managed and cleaned. Old houses and structures, that was once the homes of people, now turned into shops. The market structure and shops make me feel like the old architectural design from a story from Alladin. Street with warm lighting ambience in style of old lantern, structure, small ventilation windows, old retro door of houses with chain buckles, still used to lock doors of shop, Adobe looks of houses now transformed into shops, made you time travel into time. All the shops are well organised and you can find a lot of clothing, restaurants, tea shops, sweet shops, perfume shop there. I simply love visiting this area. As many people were there, I was not comfortable taking pictures of the vicinity but somehow managed to get a few shots. Barbecue of the one of the restaurant 😋 is delicious with a good serving size but expensive.

Souk Al-Mubarakiya is a historical market located in the heart of Kuwait City with looks adjusted to the modern times. Reportedly, this historic center of the souk has been there for more than 200 years. Over the years, withstanding several calamities including wars, devastating fires etc, it has expanded massively and now stands like a conglomerate of markets from different time periods. It’s structured like an indoor market area where one can find a variety of confectionery, desserts, local Kuwaiti restaurants, spices, perfumes, local clothes, grocery stores and a fish market. You can get some amazing bargains here and the place is massive. The fruit stalls are unbelievable and you will see several unique fruit and vegetable varieties from across region. I must say, if you are in Kuwait, it’s must-visit spot.
