How sad that the culinary industry is losing it's authentic kuwaiti history to be replaced by Americanized coffee shops and burger joints. Kuwaiti's seem intent on erasing their historical identity. However, KTV seems to be organizing programs that lean on traditional Kuwaiti folk dance during the cooler months. Let's hope they keep it up! Update: traditional cafes are making a comeback as the more westernerized coffee shops seem to be struggling and going out of business. There is a certain consumer group that seeks affordable food and drink that dominates this market. Most of which come from South Asian expats. The rest from older retired Kuwaitis as regulars and during the winter months GCC tourists and many Eastern Saudi residents who enjoy traditional markets and who also aim for a specific budget. Update: the non-traditional cafe's have lost ground more or less and even McDonald's shutdown in it's prominent spot of algharabaly street.
