The best Holocaust museum I've ever been to as a holocaust historian. The memorial museum is a fascinating mixture of storytelling through alternate narratives. While some may complain the focus is taken off of Jewish stories, I would argue that understanding about the entirety of Jewish holocaust experiences makes it integral to look at the various different perspectives in the context of the Holocaust. In this way it is both a holocaust story, a national Latvian story, and the story of a man whose integrity, character, and impact are worthy of commemoration and emulation.

No matter why you come to this museum, and from what background you have, different aspects of Žanis' story could speak to you. I'm very thankful to be able to experience the museum for myself, because it truly is an experience and not only a source of information and education. Beautiful architecture, symbolic with both its implementation and it's message, and interactivity through unique musical composition that is singular to every visitor gives this museum a huge impact.

If you only have a few hours in Riga, or if you are in the city for a longer visit, this museum is not something to miss!
