Just wanted to add this information for the operation during the MCO (Movement Control Order). The pork section would only be operating on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday during this period. Do go early if you want more choices, obviously.
The only market in city center after the demolition of Pasar Cekor. It is not the cheapest, but you pay what you are getting [stalls more likely to sell by weight, instead of the using "ikat" (bunched) or "tompok" (piled) -] which sometimes are tad expensive as the seller at other markets round the price up to RM2 or RM3 instead of exact amount. Generally a market that you can get most stuffs, it is not the best or widest ranging market such as Stutong or Kubah, but the basics are there (limited to morning only during MCO)-.
At usual time (non-MCO) the food court upstairs also provides an interesting mixture of food offerings both daytime and night time. Hope those businesses survive.
There are talks since 2013 (or even before) to demolish the market. It is not a matter of if, but when. I guess we can all be on the lookout and try to delay it as long as possible. Read moreThis is one of the under utilized market with amazing river view. You can just look at the number of food stalls at level 1 and see how many are vacant. Ok let's come back to food. The highly recommended stalls are the Kueh chap of course. Used to being a lepak place after watching midnight movie. To me I don't really like Kueh chap with lots of garlic. It destroy the amazing taste of the soup. Second is the western cuisine stall. People love their chicken chop, lamb shank, and also kids meal like hash brown with amazing low price. The portion is good compare to the price. Definitely worth it. My personal preference goes to the porridge stall. I don't take liver normally but this guy cooked am amazing porridge with liver that don't have any weird taste at all. Definitely...
Read moreLove their ample parking space but I'm giving it 3 stars due to its lack of variety. They do have an Indian spice stall and coconut produce stalls but it's almost impossible to find ingredients for Dayak or Malay dishes there.
Food stalls are at the upper level, more choices after 6pm. My favourites are the yewchakueh stall and the cha kueh stall.
Bottom line, this is a good place to get ingredients IF, you're cooking Chinese food. There are pork stalls, sundry shops selling Chinese cooking wine and seasonings as well as a Chinese herbs stall.
Stalls starts closing or running low on stock around 9am so go earlier...
