Perched at the edge of the Andaman Sea, Eagle Square stands as an iconic symbol of Langkawi and serves as a picturesque setting for witnessing the magical sunset unfold. As we arrived at Eagle Square, we were greeted by the majestic sight of the towering eagle statue, poised gracefully against the backdrop of the sea and the setting sun. The intricate details of the sculpture, depicting Langkawi's emblematic eagle in flight, added to the grandeur of the surroundings and set the stage for a truly memorable evening. As the sun began its descent, casting a golden hue over the horizon, we found ourselves spellbound by the kaleidoscope of colors painting the sky. Dataran Lang, also known as Eagle Square, stands as an iconic landmark in Langkawi Island, and my recent visit left me utterly mesmerized. Arriving in the evening, I was greeted by the sight of the magnificent eagle statue. The sheer grandeur of the square was awe-inspiring, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder as I took it all in. What made the experience even more delightful was the fact that there was no entry ticket required. It's refreshing to find such a beautiful attraction that's accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. As I explored the square, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds, thanks to my decision to visit on a weekday. The peaceful atmosphere allowed me to fully immerse myself in the beauty of the surroundings without feeling rushed or overcrowded. The view from Eagle Square is simply breathtaking. The tranquil waters of the Sea stretching out into the horizon, coupled with the lush greenery of the surrounding landscape, created a scene straight out of a postcard. And as the evening descended, the twinkling lights of the Maha Tower in the distance added a touch of magic to the panorama. But it wasn't just the visual spectacle that captivated me; it was the overall ambiance of the place. There was a sense of serenity and tranquility that washed over me as I sat by the waterfront, listening to the gentle lapping of the waves and watching the world go by. It was the kind of moment that makes you pause and appreciate the beauty of life. In conclusion, my visit to Dataran Lang was nothing short of magical. From the awe-inspiring sight of Eagle Square to the peaceful atmosphere and stunning views, it was an experience I won't soon forget. Whether you're a tourist exploring Langkawi Island or a local looking for a tranquil escape, I highly recommend paying a visit to this enchanting destination. You won't be disappointed.

Langkawi, the jewel of Kedah, derives its name from the red backed Eagle which rules the skies above the island. Legend has it that the ‘Lang’ comes from the Malay word ‘helang’, which means Eagle, and the ‘Kawi’ comes from the word meaning marble. The convocation of Eagles flying high in the sky and a land full of marble do lend some credibility to this legend. Dataran Lang conveniently called as the Eagle Square, celebrates these majestic birds of Langkawi. It is an iconic statue located on the southern part of Pulau Langkawi, on the Kuah Jetty. The Eagle Square has an impressive 12 metre tall statue of a red backed Eagle standing on a blue star shaped platform. It is surrounded by forest covered mountains on one side and the open Andaman Sea on the other. With its wings spread, the Eagle of Dataran Lang looks ready to soar into the sky. This sculpture acts as a guide to mariners and leads them to the Kuah harbour. Situated near the ferry terminal, the Eagle square has artistic water features, a small pond to do paddle boating, verdant green park to enjoy a picnic, and a perfect background for memorable pictures. In the night, the Eagle of Langkawi is lit up with glitzy lights giving it a whole new dimension. Dataran Lang gets a bit overheated in the sun and it is best to visit here during sunrise or sunset. There are plenty of eateries and souvenir shops around. You can also go to the Cenang night market or Langkawi fair mall after spending some time in the glory of the Eagle square.

Great place to catch the sunset. Clear lack of upkeep to the overall facility and facade, but Dataran Lang still remains as one of the nicer spots to catch the sunset on any given day in Langkawi. We went on a weekend evening but there were very few crowd. On one hand it could be because of the post-Covid has not yet fully returned to Langkawi, but on the other hand, could also be due to the inadequete upkeep of the facilities. There were no cafes near the area, but Dataran Lang is located adjacent to the main ferry terminal which serves as a mini-mall for the area. Within the immediate vicinity, there are plenty of stalls selling quick bites at reasonable prices. Parking is abundant all within 5-10 minutes walking distance. Would highly recommend to visit for the sunset, if not for the nostalgia of one of the main iconic landmarks of Langkawi. No tickets necessary, open public space throughout Dataran Lang. Wide open spaces makes it suitable for families with kids. The venue is also mostly wheelchair accessible but do be mindful of the tripping hazard from displaced tiles. Cleanliness is good relative to the upkeep, but the small crowd overall could be the main reason why. Overall enjoyed our family outing to catch the sunset, and would likely to return again in the future.
