Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s seventh and longest-serving prime minister, was born the youngest of nine children in Alor Setar in 1925.
This is an interesting place to visit. His childhood home is now preserved as a small but worthwhile museum, containing personal and family effects, photos and his memorabilias.
Aside from providing an insight into Mahathir’s early life, the museum is an interesting example of a traditional Malaysian house that reminds me of my house in Titi Besi, Kedah during my early childhood.
The house contained various items and memorabilia connected with the life and times of Tun Mahathir, a well respected medical doctor who ventured into politics and led Malaysia into a developed nation twice as a Prime Minister.
This is very well-maintained for a house over a century old. Worth a visit and also to be repeated.
In the complex, you can also visit the other two galleries: Tun's medical practices and his personal politics progression.
The entrance to all these buildings and the birthplace house is free. No ticket required.
The staff are friendly and there are several parking spaces near the premises.
To complement this visit, you must read Tun’s book “Doctor in the House” first few chapters to have the background on the house and the surroundings,...

Read moreIt is well kept except for the Kilang Ais, could not visit it. It was locked. I think more interactive videos should be shown to the public about Tun Dr Mahathir. The children who visited looked bored and didn't know what to do. The info on the board were very long and the letters were small to read. Jenuh jegei mata nak baca. Other activities like penceritaan tentang kehebatan Tun Dr Mahathir, colouring pictures of Tun, stamping activities like finding info and filled in the stamp book to get souvenirs will be fun. Other than that, we should have local food demo and also local products on sale to attract the tourists. Kedai cenderamata kena bagi ada, we can buy something as a token that we've been to this...
