If you fall mouth first on this mushroom and accidentally chew it...be sure to spit it out, luckily it won't pass through your liver, and hopefully you won't be hung for crime. Muscimol – the GABA-activating compound from Amanita mushrooms – is drawing attention in neuroscience research. Preclinical studies show it can significantly reduce neuropathic pain symptoms (mechanical allodynia, hyperalgesia) and act as a potent anticonvulsant by enhancing GABA-A activity. Early Phase-1 trials are even exploring localized muscimol infusion for drug-resistant epilepsy. While it’s still experimental and not approved as a therapy, muscimol’s unique profile makes it an intriguing candidate for future treatments targeting pain, seizures, and brain health. “Then eat from all the fruits [fruiting bodies] and follow the ways of your Lord laid down" (16:69). “Do they not look at the earth – how We caused to grow therein of EVERY noble kind? Indeed in that is a SIGN" (26:7)... Speaking of signs, the clustered warts in the center plus the radiating striations do produce an organic “hub-and-spoke” or “network” pattern that people describe as “neuronal” or “fractal-like.” Such caps are indeed used as inspiration for neuron-like or dendritic designs because they have: A darker “core” area (like a soma or cell body). Radiating striations (like axons or dendrites). Small dots (like synaptic boutons). There are no coincidences in...

Looking for a convenient nature escape without leaving the city? Bukit Wawasan in Puchong is a great choice for a jungle-style hike that’s both accessible and energizing. Popular among locals, it offers a refreshing trek through shaded forest trails, perfect for early morning exercise or weekend outings.
The trail is moderate in difficulty, with a good mix of flat paths, steady inclines, and some fun slopes to keep things interesting. You’ll pass through bamboo groves, tree roots, and even a small stream or two—so proper hiking shoes are recommended!
What I love most is the natural forest atmosphere—you’re surrounded by tall trees, birdsong, and the occasional monkey sighting. Despite being so close to urban areas, it really feels like a mini rainforest adventure.

Read moreDISCLAIMER: The hill was only partially open when I visited in Oct 2021. So it was a rather easy hike as there were only a few places with nice elevations in the area where we were allowed to hike at.
However, the area was good, with nice tree cover and there was also a park at the entrance, where people who are unable to take hiking, can exercise and wait for their hiking friends.
The small lake has a number of terrapins and we even saw a friendly baby wildboar rummaging through young coconut husks at the roadside. There is also a small Shrine inside the forest as u will see in one of my photos.
Parking looked congested at first glance, but in reality, there were lots of empty spots behind the block of shops nearby.
Overall I look forward to going back again. Will surely give a higher rating when I do go back under normal...
