if you spend your holidays on Malta and intend to swim in the see you should check the quality of the water carefully before entering! On 13.08.2024 it was not recommended to swim in the sea of this area (St. Tumas and Fajtata) at all! Due to oil or grease patches on the seawater that obviously were originated from the offshore fish farms the seawater had been once again polluted on that day! Depending on the change of current and wind conditions it is possible that this often smelly situation won't change for a couple of days. The issue of water pollution caused by fish farms had been pointed out by locals many times before but authorities obviously are not interested to change anything! The government tries hard to push tourismn on one side and on the other side is not capable to remove obstacles that have a huge impact on the environment that attracts tourists.

I know businesses around here would like to make €$¥£money with any opportunity but, being :( underrated leaves locals to enjoy their home and not have to watch for the time before heading there. Great scenery and locals restaurants available too to check out so no need to worry about hunger :). My partner and I didn’t plan to do touristic activities and waking up everyday to only enjoy the locals areas was pretty great. Just respect people’s home and be nice...
Read moreSt Thomas Bay has exceptionally clear waters with lots of fish to see. Don't get too hung up on the sandy bit if it's high season, the weekend and busy. There are plenty of places to sit alongside the water. If you walk along the promenade past the kiosk and sandy area there's toilets and a fewl food trucks / ice cream vans on the upper level in summer season. The sandy bit of the beach is small but there's so many other places to put down your towel and jump in and swim or snorkel, with a shady area as you come to the end of the promenade where the...
