Auditorio Guelaguetza — Attraction in Oaxaca

Great place and show. Even during a rainy day, we all enjoyed the Guelaguetza 2019 celebration. They provided free shuttle from Zócalo to the Auditorium and back. I would come back, if tickets do not "sale out", again. Travel Agencies make most of the money on this celebration. Therefore, if it continues, I will join the Teachers and Professor's protest Guelaguetza at the Alebrijes Stadium, next year. I had really good recommendations from local people. The Sunday, before the first Monday, the Teachers and Professor organized a great celebration, this year. It included live music and fireworks. Please, plan your vacation ahead of time and buy your Tickets for Guelaguetza at reasonable prices, do not pay more than $2000 pesos, it is clearly not worth it. Nice views. However when we were walking up along the side of the Auditorio around 10 in the morning on a sunny Saturday morning, an older American couple was walking down the stairs. They told us they were just robbed by a man with a “large” knife. He took their phone, money, and wedding rings. They said they have done this walk in the woods above the Auditorio many times since 2005 and this is the first time anything has happened. Incidentally, a friend who lives in Oaxaca told us the area around the Auditorio was “sketchy”. In addition, a security guard at the top of the stairs told us the woods beyond are “peligroso”. Well that proves it. Don’t need a mugging to ruin my vacation. Be careful if you’re going that way, especially if you want to hike in the woods...
