I was on vacationing in Cancun, México. This is my second time visiting this wonderful city in the last 2 years. The city, culture, activities and people are out of this world. I have enjoyed myself here better than any other place I've been too except maybe "Las Vegas " Cancun has all you will ever want to do and or experience. Portal Maya is an enchanting place where the city will gather up to see a show. This place is right off the quinta (5th Ave) avenida, which is where most cancun and neighboring vacationers will come to visit and bring home some goodies to take back home. I enjoy the portal Maya because it's a grandious structure with elegant details overlooking the turquoise rich waters of the Riviera Maya. To me just looking at the structure feels magical and enchanting. I would suggest ANYONE who has not had the opportunity to visit this place to please do so as soon as possible. I will visit again and again just because I've enjoyed all the time I've spent in this...

Photo-Op Paradise. This arch-shaped statue is a bit of a local celebrity. It's the perfect backdrop for your Instagram feed, promising stunning ocean views and a touch of coastal charm. But don't be fooled by its picturesque facade.

The reality is a bit less glamorous. While the arch in front of the ocean itself is quite a sight, the surrounding area is a chaotic whirlwind of activity. It's like a real-life version of a crowded marketplace, with pushy vendors, aggressive taxi drivers, and a general sense of mayhem. You'll need to dodge and weave your way through the crowds just to get a decent photo.

So, while the portal itself is worth a quick visit, be prepared to brace yourself for the onslaught of tourist traps and aggressive sales pitches. Just remember, a good photo is worth a little...

El portal Maya is where the monument stands in front of the beach and closes to the famous "Quinta Avenidad" shopping district

There is always something going on here. Different types of events during the day as well as night. The public beach in front is mostly in good condition to enjoy the beach of Playa del Carmen if you are not staying at a hotel with beach access.

The ferry station to go to Cozumel is also next to the monument

Shopping: be careful buying in shopping district since most prices are 'gringo" prices and look out for fake jewelry. They target foreigner since most aren't coming back to complain about their purchases.

Food is usually better and cheaper a few blocks away. My favorite food place is "el fogon" good quality at...

A nice place to stroll along avenida, downtown playa del carmen. It's a tourist spot so expect lots of people around plus it is where locals hang out with their friends & families too. It is also where you can find a lot of shop to check out for Souvenirs & more affordable than the shop in resorts. There's a lot of Mexican restaurants too to enjoy. They have some entertainment every afternoon. There's public beaches around as well. But we heard, never stay late in this place for safety reason. Overall,4 star for our experience.
