Playacar Mayan Ruinas — Local services in Playa del Carmen

Looking for some local ruins as I had briefly seen reviews on this place and it was the closest to where we were. It was roughly a 13-15 minute walk in the sun, got shady once we got closer. You do pass what looks like private property but it isn't. Once we saw them I was a bit underwhelmed. A couple of the bigger monuments had a metal chain around it, which was fine. But I think there should have been some kind of information plaque or board just to give a little history, as opposed to just walking around the small area. It was peaceful. Full of greenery. Set just off the road down a dirt track lined with rocks, there are three stone structures approx 20 metres apart, they don't look as old as they make out, the nice thing about it is that various tourists have left their mark by making small stone structures of piled up stones just balanced on top of each other, there are lots of stones just scattered around to do so, we had a go too & photographed it. Set in trees & bushes with Agoutis ( look like big brown guinea-pigs) birds if your quiet & patient and lizards. So still...

I love visiting ruins, and these did not disappoint. Of course they are small, but I am glad they are preserved and open to view for free. Respect for the ruins should be observed, so don't climb or walk on them. It's a lovely shaded walk between the different ruins. It took some doing to get decent parking in the city and I walked quite a few blocks and through the resort area to get there, but it was worth the trek.
