We came to Cozumel on a cruise and didn't have an excursion planned for the day. After walking around and shopping we decided to find a beach - a taxi driver recommended Playa Uvas so we all decided to go and see what it was about. The 9 people with our group were really happy with the look of the place when we arrived. The bathrooms flushed and weren't terribly messy, there were plenty of chairs/loungers available, the sand was clean and it was a beautiful day for the beach. We were assigned our chairs (which was fine) but there were a few ants towards the end of the stay. Our server's name was Keny - he and his not name tagged assistant were amazing and overly friendly and accommodating.... at first. We arrived at 12:10 - i know this because Keny wrote the time on our all you can drink wristbands (said it was so that people don't overstay their 4 hour all you can drink limit - which i understand and it totally makes sense). We had a great time listening to our own music, drinking, swimming, taking pictures/videos and meeting new people. The mariachi were very good - didn't try the food so i can't speak for it. The drinks were ok but i only drank rum & coke - friends had the pina coladas/margs and took some tequila as well. We never really had to wait for drinks or hunt down Keny - he was always available for whatever we needed.
At 2:30 we decided to calm down and start getting things together to head back to the boat around 3:30. A few of our friends had "a few" too many drinks so we figured that by the time we get everything together and call a taxi we would have about an hour in port before we had to get back on the ship. I let Keny know and he went ahead and cut our wristbands off at 3 (we assumed it was so we couldn't pass our bands to other people to use - which would make sense and be totally fine). They cut our bands off while we were still packing up at the beach chairs and when we went to walk out and call a taxi we were told we couldn't leave. Security walked up and told us we still owed money - we were very confused. We were then informed that we overstayed our time because they were showing we got there at 11 - not at 12:10 EVENTHOUGH if we had of gotten there at 11 we were still within our time since it was only 3 and we had a 4 hour time slot. We had to argue with a number of people as they were trying to charge us an extra $68 US each person. They didn't know we had 3 fluent spanish speakers in the group and basically thought everyone had drank too much to bother pushing back. I was the party mom on this day and after going back and forth for 20 mins i told them we had photos and videos of our wristbands with the appropriate times on them.... They didn't even ask to see the photos - they new they were wrong.
In summation - its great if you just want to have some drinks on a beach. No shoreline hustlers and the drinks & service is amazing. MAKE SURE YOU GET A RECEIPT AND TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR WRISTBAND so they don't try to take...
Read moreOur family of 5 did the Clearboat, ATV, Snorkeling, and Playa Uvas tour in Cozumel. It was a lot of fun and we learned a lot from our tour guide (forgot his name) but was sooooo nice and learned so much about Cozumel! He really was amazing!! He picked us up at the meeting spot at 7-11 right on time and we were off. We were scheduled to ride the ATV's first, but when we got there the group before us was not back yet so our tour guide pivoted and asked if we wouldn't mind doing the Tequila Tasting first. We were all ok with that. We did have a good time at the tequila tasting and learned so much! However, we were there well over an hour which cut all our other activites short. We did purchase 2 bottles of tequila (mango & coffee) They had it wrapped up already so we were not able to see it, but figured it would be what we purchased. IT WAS NOT :( got it home and it's basically just the juice. They told us it was the pure silver tequila with flavoring added to it which should have been 38% but when we got home and finally got to open it, it was only 14%. SO DO NOT BUY THE TEQUILA FROM THIS EXCURSION WITHOUT OPENING IT FIRST!! They got us for $80. So the jokes on us which sucks because the real stuff was really good!! We moved on the the ATV's and again our tour guy was soooooo nice. He kept apologizing that the tequila took so long and that we had to cut our ride down by 30 mins. We were supposed to ride for an hour but were really only on there like 25 mins but we did have a fun time. We then headed over to the clear boat excursion. We got checked in and shortly after we were off with captain Caspar & Jessica. They were great!! Jessica was amazing and answered all our questions and took lots of pics for us. She was so nice and helped us with all our snorkel gear and made sure we were all taken care of!! Captain Caspar was super funny and was great as well. We did have to cut our snorkeling time from 30 mins to 15 mins because of the time crunch. The views from the boat, under the boat, and in the water were amazing and well worth it. Just wish we could have enjoyed it more. We then headed back to shore and had to rush back to ship so we didn't miss it and because of that we never even got any kind of lunch that we paid for. We were offered a drink on the clear boat, but never any lunch before or after the excursion. So, what to take away from this excursion: Our guides did a great job and made the best out of what time we had. 2.Would do this again IF we were staying on the island and not on a cruise ship. Don't recommend doing all the things as time was a HUGE issue and we didn't get to fully enjoy all the excursions we paid for. DO NOT BUY THE TEQUILA WITHOUT OPENING THE PACKAGE THERE!!!! Duped us out of the real stuff. Don't plan on having any lunch even if you paid for it if you do all...
Read moreWe booked this tour as they said they were part of the Carnival Horizon ship - which we were on. It was a long time waiting for this tour to start as they were waiting to book people onto the coach. We had to wait about an hour and a half before the tour started even though we were ready. Silvia our tour guide was very lovely and charming. She was funny and was there for us 0 telling us what was good value and not so good value to buy. She was caring and nice. We went to the Tequila shop - where she spoke at great length about the different tequilas and the best ones to buy for taste and to help prevent snoring etc. etc. She gave us nice tasters, working with the shop owner, they showed us massive bottles of the best tequilas. We were then encouraged to go inside the shop to make our purchases. I brought a small bottle of the fruit tequila and also a small bottle of the one to stop snoring. They were in foam wrapping which I thought was great for transporting home to UK. So didn't even think to look inside the bottles. On getting home - the fruit tequila looked nasty , had black stuff in the bottle and sediment. it loos really nasty - I will NOT be drinking this. On looking back at other reviews I now see that holiday makers say 0 drink the samples, but do not buy the bottles to bring home. I repeat this - they are not worth the money It is a scam and shouldn't really be allowed as its extortionate by any other means really. They need to stop this practice and Carnival Horizon Cruises should not be party to this bad selling practice. We demand better truth and not to be sold rubbish because we are holidaymakers. We don't want to be ripped off -Thank you. Please sort this out and stop selling poor tequila. The staff on all the tours really more or less make you feel bad if you don't give tips and they have a great sob story so you feel guilty and tip accordingly.
A great beach trip and the chance to spend some time on the beach which was built into this coach tour of Cozumel Mexico - Good shopping and a good tour, but was spoilt by the tequila debacle
Buyer beware when it comes to the tequila buying. they are all bad - see all the other reviews, but on the whole the tour itself wasn't too bad. It was a bit...
