The Stadhuis (City Hall) of Rotterdam is a magnificent example of early 20th-century architecture, completed in 1920. It is one of the few buildings in the city center that survived the bombings of World War II. The interior is equally impressive, featuring grand murals, elegant marble details, and intricate woodwork. The murals within the Stadhuis are captivating, depicting scenes of historical and cultural significance, adding to the grandeur of the hall. The marble fireplace, with its ornate gold accents and classic design, stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. Visitors to the Stadhuis are often struck by the building’s stately presence and the sense of history it embodies. It is not only a functioning government building but also a monument that reflects the resilience and spirit of Rotterdam. Whether you're interested in architecture, history, or simply looking for a beautiful place to visit, the Stadhuis of Rotterdam offers a unique and enriching experience.

From my perspective as a photographer, Stadhuis Rotterdam is a great location that offers a perfect backdrop for any photoshoot. I recently had the opportunity to photograph a band here, and the historic architecture and beautiful surroundings provided a lot of great angles for capturing some great shots. It's a versatile location that works wonderfully for various types of photography, from portraits to group shots. Of course, it is a beautiful place to just explore and appreciate the architecture. Be sure to check out the inner garden :)

Perhaps this is a nice building, but people working for the gemente are absolutely disorganized and unknowledgeable. I called to make an appointment for registration to obtain my BSN so that I can start working (after an overseas move). I was told by the person on the phone that it is ok to register 4 weeks ahead (for BSN) because the request takes 4 weeks to process, and then, when I got there they told me that they could not register me. I am not sure who makes the decisions or communicates information, but there is so much inconsistency when dealing with them, i suggest moving to another city instead… just to avoid dealing with the people at gemente of Rotterdam… On top of that, it says on their own website that it takes up to four weeks to process… Dear staff…when you are dealing with someone’s employability in the country, you are dealing with their ability to earn enough money to put a roof over their heads and food on the table. You are not dealing with a happy meal at McDonald’s; it is about someone’s ability to survive, and you should act with an appropriate level of professionalism. I have seen more professional employees at McDonald’s. Sincerly

If you get the chance, peek in to see the beautiful City Hall interiors — with half-finished murals from the inter-war years, statuary, historic wood finishes, and grand meeting rooms. A more modern interior design can be seen in the staff cafeteria in the attic. A miracle this building is still in tact, one of few surviving structures from the Second World War. The statue’s motto speaks to this resilience. Translation from Dutch: “stronger through struggle”.

What a magnificent building this city hall is! It's worth a visit simply to admire the architecture. The entrance on the left of the building, opposite the police station, is for civil registry. When you want to take photographs please ask the guard (s) for permission and make sure your photos are devoid of people.

As a tourist, this is one of the most spectacular, pieces of period architecture that was spared by WW2 in Rotterdam. It’s elaborate, classy and gorgeous. You can roam around at your own accord and try to go in the early evening so you can wonder at the spectacular garden when it’s illuminated
