Museummolen De Walvisch — Attraction in Schiedam

Beautiful windmill with friendly staff. This is also the location from where the local tour boat departs and arrives, and where you can buy tickets for the boat.

I believe everyone involved is a volunteer, all seem to really enjoy being there.

My boat and museum tour was in Dutch, so inquire before hand if English is possible. Would be nice for the historical and anecdotal information, but I believe without you will still have a very nice experience. I did see printed information in multiple languages.

The windmill has different floors, the higher up you go the steeper the stairs. Good place to conquer your fear of heights 😉.

The boat tour takes about 1 to 2.5 hours and takes you around all of Schiedam's canals. Even though I'm from here it was still informational and is just lovely. When the weather is nice, then I always take my guests for a boat tour.

I believe the boat tour is only available in Dutch, but they have printed information in other languages. It is usually a mixed crowd, and everyone appears to enjoy themselves wether they fully understand or not.

'De Walvisch' is one of the six remaining windmills of Schiedam, which are the tallest windmills (tower mills) in the world. Inside the windmill, there's a shop on the ground floor which sells all kinds of baking products. On the floors above, there's a 180 degrees projection of the history of the windmills of Schiedam, a miniature model of the windmill and a floor that allows you to go outside and enjoy the views of Schiedam. But keep in mind that the stairs to the top floors are very steep, so people in wheelchairs for example are not...

In this building we can enjoy the rooms that used as the restoran and store, the factory of flour, the movie room, the educational room to explain the history and the equipment that was used to build and maintenance the building. In the top room we can see the machine to make flour which using wind mill. From this room we can go to the balcony and see the lovely view from the top.
